I know someone who made the statement that Michael Schiavo would NEVER try to have his wife starved to death for the money, that it must be because he loved her. No one would do something like that for a measly $40K.

Good point. Plenty of people are willing to kill in order to gain little or no money.

If life followed the logic of the folks who think "people only kill for money," then serial killers should be millionaires.

Yep, that was it exactly. I can honestly say I was listening to him with an open mind (although I really did not care whether he lived or died. in the end we all die, that's just the fact of it) and he completely convinced me he was full of bs.
