KINGFISHER -- State and local officials are puzzled by a series of geysers that have erupted in recent days in Kingfisher County, spewing mud and gas into the air.
The geysers have appeared throughout the countryside, with stretches of up to 12 miles between spots, and some as short as a quarter of a mile, Kingfisher Fire Chief John Crawford said.
The threat of the gas igniting is "unlikely," Crawford said, but a bigger concern is the gas could begin coming up through water-well lines.
That was my thought also.
There was a pipeline rupture in NJ back in the early 90's or late 80's that wiped out a big apartment complex. They run the stuff at some big pressures in transfer. Local utilities do use much lower pressures.

Especially in Kingfisher County. Kingfisher County has more Catholics per capita than anywhere else in Oklahoma. The whole area was settled by Catholics. It is a very, very conservative county. In fact, it is probably the only county left that has religious artwork still gracing its interior. I hate to say that, in case some troll sees this, but there is definite Christian artwork hanging in the halls of the courthouse. Pretty neat. And no one has ever complained.
thanks for the info, also Fierce and Smokin!
Hey Freepers. I'm actually from there and was in Kingfisher over Thanksgiving. I'm from Loyal, Oklahoma, 9 miles NW as the crow flies. My dad was a farmer and welder and worked extensively in the oil patch during the boom of the 1980s. All that being said, I can't for the life of me say that I've ever seen or heard about anything remotely similiar to what they are experiencing there. I'm going to make some calls today and try to find out more. I'll let you guys know what I find out. I will say this about the place. Kingfisher county has an abundance of Natural Gas producing wells. It also has a moderate oil production history. The soil there is red shell and as far as deep lying geographics, I got no idea. Any thoughts are appreciated. My parents and sister live 50 miles from there so I'm somewhat concerned/interested about what's going on.
Hey there neighbor!! I'm just outside of Crescent (in the sand). Looking forward to hearing about what you find out.
Just spoke to my cousin. He said that as of right now they are saying natural gas. He didn't have much more information than what we have currently. He did say that News Chanel 9 was driving through town this morning so you should look for a news report from them during the noon hour today. Really really strange stuff. My cousin did say that nobody was panicking yet. I'll let you know more when I know more. Regards!
Wrong. It would have to be Good Native American Kickapoo.

LOL. Okay, who's got the Maalox?
"KINGFISHER -- State and local officials are puzzled by a series of geysers that have erupted in recent days in Kingfisher County, spewing mud and gas into the air."
Puzzled? I'd say it's probably a sign of possible future earthquake activity. That's some serious stuff.
Story is being updated through the day.
Lead is now "Officials are asking residents not to drink water if they smell gas."
I know this is a serious subject, but that has to be one of the funnier lines I've seen in a while.
What kind of gas are they smelling?
To have cold geysers over such a large area would indicate some type of movement along a hidden fault line. Along a creek bed could be a dead giveaway.
Name this TV show:
"What's that noise?"
"It's Mount MaHiney and she's gonna blow!"
Something is moving and releasing gasses from solution. Shaking the Coke Bottle.
