Another city cop died in the line of duty yesterday, gunned down while trying to stop a break-in at a neighbor's house by two men including a drug-plagued actor who once starred in the Robert De Niro film "A Bronx Tale" and appeared in the HBO series "The Sopranos."
Despite being mortally wounded, Officer Daniel Enchautegui, 28, managed to shoot both men before collapsing in his Bronx driveway a bullet near his heart.

I will seldom praise the New York Times, but I will when it's due. I read this story in the Sunday Times, and they devoted the front page and an extensive story inside to the slain officer. Except for the most passing reference, they did not indulge in discussion of the actor. They portrayed the officer as totally heroic. It was good coverage and made me feel ashamed that I was interested in the movie star angle, when an officer had died apprehending that scum.
We have lost 2 officers here in as many weeks. This state needs to use the death penalty for these animals. When do we say we have had enough?
I agree in the movie actor angle. But it doesnt say much for all the mob and mob wannabe's on that show. But once again, this state needs harsh punishment for the animals loose among us. 2 officers gunned down, kept on after their assailants to the end. Thankfully all have been caught.
I was frankly surprised that according to the article these were the first two officers killed in the line of duty this year. I think the number over the last decade is slightly more or less than one per year. Too many, but I thought NYC was still more dangerous than that.
It's been a long time (if I remember right) that we lost 2 so close together. I could be wrong about the time frame. Violent crimes have reduced greatly since Rudy took the helm, now Bloomberg. Luckily, we have been doing ok. I think we have had more publicity on the "actor" crimes committed here than others though.
Stupid, stupid mofo.
