Al Franken: 'We have to win on values' ( BARF ALERT !!! )

Minnesota native Al Franken is moving back to Minneapolis, bringing his national radio talk show with him. He is also considering a future run for the U.S. Senate. Last week he was in town promoting his latest book, "The Truth (with jokes)," and doing a live broadcast from the Pantages Theater. On Sunday afternoon he came to the Star Tribune for a meeting with members of the editorial board. The following is excerpted from their conversation:

Al Franken: I know it's probably a bad way to start, but could you guys tell me where to get a Sunday Times? [Silence.] That was a joke.

Q Could you tell us why you're moving the show to Minneapolis?

A Because I can. I'm an empty-nester now, and I'd always thought about moving back to Minnesota. You can do a radio show from pretty much anywhere. Also, I'm thinking of getting involved politically here, so I moved at the first opportunity to come back.

What you guys probably don't know is that I've formed a PAC, called Midwest Values PAC, MVP. I'm going to be raising money for progressive organizations and candidates -- here in Minnesota, in the Midwest and around the country.

Q The last time we talked, it sounded pretty sure that you were going to run for Senate.

A That was your interpretation. I've never been sure that I am. I'm very seriously considering it, but I don't know whether I'm running or not. This cycle, I'm going to be campaigning for Democrats all over the state and all over the country.

This is the final nail.

Party implosions usually take years.

This one is taking months.

Hatred for Bush and Hatred for the War in Iraq have become an obsession of the left.

1) In 2002, they pushed for an Iraq War resolution in order to look tougher than Bush in a post-9/11 environment. They lost the election handily.

2) In 2004, they threw everything they had at Bush. Through the MSM, movies and music. They saturated the environment with hatred for Bush and for the war, but they were tied to their votes and that sunk them. The lost the election handily.

3) In 2006, they will deny their vote and will decry the mission. They will call Bush a liar and the war a fraud. They will be unrestrained in their hatred and the average likely voter will be horrified and unsympathetic. They will lose handily in 2006. It will be their worse loss of these three election cycles in both numbers and in the reverse of expectations.
