Socialists want everything funded through the government.

Thats probably what this is really about. And these machines at school are stocked by contract distributors usually as well (you know, business owners, hissssss).

Hopefully the schools and boards will fight this.

When are they going to go after birth control pills. If my son needs tylenol at school we have to go thru so much ppwk and doctor slips.
Yet a girl wants birth control pills or a boy needs a condom they give them handfulls at a time w/o parent permission.
This is not about soda pop, obesity, health care or behavior. Its about schools finding creative ways to make money w/o taxing the bejeebers out of everyone for it.
Selling soda pop is capitalistic, a big fat no-no in marxist publik skools.

He was. It never ceases to amaze me how so many on this board can't think with the brain God gave 'em -if you don't put the 'sarcasm' tag on your statement, instantly you're vilified for no reason.

What I don't like is that public schools are enticing children (and making money) to start addictive habits that contribute to tooth decay and obesity

I agree. Let's just shut down the whole shootin' match. *chuckle* I can just picture some principal standing at the door of the school, steering all those unsuspecting children to the coke machines. Come on. You gonna go after gas stations, movie theatres, grocery stores and the like because they have coke machines out front... and the kids might be tempted? Teach your kids right (your responsibility) and let them make good decisions. Besides, if you don't trust them.....withhold their pocket change. :)

Do you like paying outrageous health care costs?

I think we pay more in the long run for unwanted pregnancies and AIDS. What do you think? Most obese kids have parents that are obese. They consume most of their calories at home. You'd have to babysit them after school as well. Not feasible. Punishing everyone because a few can't control themselves... is not the answer. BTW.... there isn't any confirmation that drinking sodas leads to the need for Ritalin. In fact....it's way over-prescribed for young boys who have a tendency to be........BOYS.

Dittos.

Nice to find a kindred spirit.

Just remember when the time comes, I would prefer Chief of Staff or Secretary of Defense. Put me in charge of the State Dept., and we're through.

"Soda pop is the biggest source of calories for kids and it's also the one food that has been shown to promote obesity in children," Michael Jacobson says.

God forbid if they find a link between obese parents and obese children.

They would push to have obese people put in some "fat camp" concentration camp and banned from procreating.

I wonder how long it will be before the libs call for laws banning people under 18/21 from buying/possessing/consuming soft drinks (sugary, sugar-free, caffeinated, and decaffeinated)...I guess technically that would also be applied to coffee and tea. Just imagine this following future sign at Starbucks :

"MUST BE 21 OR OLDER TO ENTER STARBUCKS. PLEASE SLIDE NATIONAL ID CARD THROUGH NATIONAL ID CARD SCANNER FOR ENTRY. DOOR WILL NOT OPEN UNLESS LEGAL AGE IS VERIFIED."

But strangely, the CSPI doesn't wage war against Kool-Aid (the Jim Jones Kool-Aid, that is). :D
