A 21-year-old Longview man pleaded guilty to capital murder Friday in the death of his 2-year-old daughter in April.

Christopher D. Lewis was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum of 40 years before becoming eligible for parole. Lewis, a Marine who fought in Iraq, was charged with capital murder and had faced the death penalty.

His daughter, Krisiauna Calaira Lewis, died April 30 at Children's Medical Center in Dallas after being taken from Longview Regional Medical Center with facial lacerations and a severe head injury.

Lewis told police after his arrest that he slammed his daughter against a wall while he was trying to toilet train her at his home, according to police records.

Lewis also was indicted on a charge of aggravated sexual assault. Police records state that Lewis admitted to sexually abusing his daughter.

In February, Lewis was an armored vehicle gunner for the U.S. Marines. He was injured by an improvised explosive device while en route to Fallujah.

He may be used by anti military activists, they love to do that.. but our military comes from all of society..and some of the bad guys do get through the filter.

It is no different than local leaders committing crime, respected physicians committing murder..
We don't condemn all because of the bad apples..
This man is a sick pedophile. He acted like a monster.

The highlight of this story for the media is he was a Vet, and a Marine to boot.

God bless that little girl and prison justice will take care of this tough Marine, I hope.

And .. some of them are adversely affected by what they saw or experienced there. Not all men are emotionally strong enough to deal with the trauma of war.

And .. what was he doing alone with his young daughter anyway .. the mother should have been doing the job of potty training.

What are you trying to say? That fathers should never be left alone with their daughters?

No, I'm not saying that.

But .. when a husband/father has been in a war zone for an extended period, and been injured, it's best to change the rules a little until you know he's stable. The trauma of war is nothing to mess with. Extra procautions help the soldier and his family cope.

On another note, I've always been frustrated with the unwillingness of the military justice system to seek the death penalty in cases that truly deserve it.

Read the article..They were separated and he had the child for 5 days. I don't think the violence and stress of war and being wounded made him sexually abuse his daughter. It may have contributed to his lack of anger management. I cannot judge.

I read the article. The fact that a mother would leave her child alone with him is amazing to me.

And .. we don't know exactly what the stresses of war do to a person.

And .. why were they separated ..?? Was he already violent toward other members of the family ..?? If so, why would it be good to leave a 5 yr old child with him ..??

I can judge! Somebody wasn't paying attention!

The girl was two year old baby. Not 5 years old.

"some of the bad guys do get through the filter"

Exactly....plus,it seems that the MSM selectively chooses the "facts" for headlines on these sad, bad or heartbreaking stories. If it is sad or bad and there is a veteran, a Christian leader, a home schooler or a conservative involved, I know the media will select that isolated fact to create their lead or headline.......

Instead of "Iraq Vet pleads guilty...."

is it possible that :
"Atheist pleads guilty..."
or
"Public school parent pleads guilty...."
or
"Liberal supporter pleads guilty...."

I feel so sorry for the little child, but I'm also angry that the media again rushes to try to tarnish the US military with this headline.

Turn him over to "a few good men". He wouldn't ever be capable of those acts again. War does not make men evil. Let him live- castrated, imprisoned forever.

There has got to be a special level of hell for those who deliberately harm little children. He may get justice on earth, but he will have to face the final Judge one day.
