The Federal Air Marshal Service says its agents acted by the book in the shooting of an American Airlines passenger who threatened to set off a bomb, but mental health experts and others disagree.
Before federal air marshals board a commercial jet, they must pass extensive training and in-flight tests -- including how to deal with all kinds of threatening passengers, from disorderly drunks to suspected terrorists.
Their training has come under scrutiny following Wednesday's shooting death of Rigoberto Alpizar, 44. He was shot near the entrance of an American Airlines plane at Miami International Airport. Two marshals drew their weapons because he endangered passengers after threatening to set off a bomb.
''Training dictates if there is an imminent threat, they have the right to use force,'' said Brian Doyle, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, which includes the Federal Air Marshal Service. (snip) ''My personal feeling is that they overreacted to this [in Miami],'' Dzakovic said. ``To me, it just doesn't seem like a regular profile of a how a terrorist would operate. But I think they operated according to their training. Which is kind of scary.''

Agreed. These hand-wringing, whiney, "sensitive," Americans-are-so-cruel types won't be happy until we're all dead.
Translation. Democrats and the MSM disagree. Bush's fault.
A lesson learned. In a post 911 world, please don't let insane people board planes They could hurt others,(or in this man's case), themselves.
The marshalls deserve a medal for their quick thinking.
I have never met a sane head-shrinker.
Tell the mental health nuts to suck-off
This guy claimed he had a bomb, he got shot and killed--- Tough .
The next guy may have one, Only the insane would carry a suicide bomb anyway.
It wouldn't matter since the guy went nuts on a Southwest Flight, and SWAirlines is known for their feisty passengers...

(My grandsons had to rebook that flight...and the next day the story was posted by me on my blog).
Here is the story:
A Southwest Airlines flight bound for Tulsa was detoured to Dallas Sunday night to deal with an out of control passenger.
One of the passengers who stepped in to get the out of control flyer under control again is 18-year-old Bryan Golemon of Cushing.
Bryan is a high school wrestler and used his wrestling skills to help the flight crew and other passengers. "The stewardess, she was standing right next to me and I said I'm a wrestler and if you want I can have him down in about ten seconds, she said OK."
They got the restraints on the man and the FBI took him off the plane in Dallas.
Southwest Airlines and the other passengers are thankful for Bryan's willingness to help.
One thing I don't understand - why did the guy wait until the plane landed and then run out to the jetway to claim he had a bomb. Oh, and another question - weren't his bags searched BEFORE he got on the plane? If so, where would he have gotten a bomb? If he had a bomb, wouldn't he have blown up the plane? Weird!
Actually, shooting unarmed passengers will hurt our security in the air.
But Bogdan Dzakovic, a Federal Aviation Administration whistle-blower who worked as an air marshal in the mid-1990s, said the program was too infused with a militia-like mentality. He said that attitude was arguably appropriate for stopping terrorists but demonstrably lethal for passengers who were agitated or mentally disturbed.
''My personal feeling is that they overreacted to this [in Miami],'' Dzakovic said. ``To me, it just doesn't seem like a regular profile of a how a terrorist would operate. But I think they operated according to their training. Which is kind of scary.''
If indeed they reacted according to their training, it is scary; from the passenger interviews I've seen, I don't see why they had to get involved at all.

Actually...there's been no passenger interviewed in the media that has confirmed that, see for example Witnesses heard no talk of bomb, where seven passengers were interviewed by the Orlando Sentinel. Passengers interviewed by Time and CNN also failed to confirm the air marshals' story, which is, from CNN:
Dave Adams, a spokesman for the Federal Air Marshal Service, said Alpizar had run up and down the plane's aisle yelling, "I have a bomb in my bag."
When the air marshal service expanded training and recruiting standards were (according to news reports at the time) greatly reduced. These 2002 recruits may not have been the "best and the brightest."
When Federal officials shoot down an unarmed, innocent man, people, especially advocates of limited government, should be asking questions, instead of parroting, "Good Shoot!," or "Give the shooter a medal!."
Why?
?
??
MrMean, you said...
"When Federal officials shoot down an unarmed, innocent
man".....
When you run down the jetway of a crowded airliner, screaming about going to get your bomb, you are considered
to be neither innocent nor unarmed. What is your question?
The Left, the 'RATS, the MSM, and all their other PC fellow traveler, anti-Americans are going to keep this up until a military junta steps in, sends home the Congress, suspends the Constitution, and governs until the "crisis" passes. It ain't gonna be pretty, and it's certainly not something that I'd like to see come to pass.
Locx the crazies up, and do not let them go running around.
I love people that can truly live the words they speak.
