Meanwhile I read letter to the editor about a family from the UK. They spent $10,000 to get here. The son and wife cannot work, but the husband can work since he's on a work visa. His work visa is about to run out, so they need to come up with more money to stay here or go back home.

What is silly is that as soon as they all become legal, they will have priced themselves out of work. Legal means benefits, right to form unions, etc.
