Dec. 7, 2005 is a date of shame in UConn history. The much-anticipated arrival of Ann Coulter was cut deliberately short by the closed-mindedness of the University of Connecticut and its liberal agenda. Coulter, who was paid over $16,000 in school funds to give a lecture, was booed and verbally berated by UConn students. That is $16,000 of UConn students' money, which comes from our tuition dues.
Ironically, these so-called liberals who profess to be proponents of free speech and liberty were the very same group that all but censored Coulter. Even if the woman made points that everyone does not agree with, at least let her earn the money she was being paid. Granted, some of Ms. Coulter's views are rather harsh and sometimes inflammatory. But when was free speech saved only for opinions that everyone wants to hear?
I applaud the College Republicans and the USG for attempting to broaden our horizons by booking a controversial speaker. It is disturbing that so many people would not listen to Coulter out of fear that she might change their minds. In another ironic twist, we proved Coulter's point of college students being ignorant, uninformed and crude by our own actions that night. I am not saying that everyone had to come to Jorgensen and listen to what Ms. Coulter had to say, but if you did, at least show some semblance of civility. There is more to political action than being obnoxious and malicious to viewpoints opposing your own.
I can understand and appreciate objectors who staged other rallies and talks during Coulter's speech. These actions can at least be condoned if not rationalized. Yesterday we proved ourselves to be the closed-minded, liberal college that we really are. Congratulations UConn liberals, Ann Coulter walked away from our school with $16,000 of your money for minimal work. On top of that, our college made national news; shows such as "Hannity and Colmes" and various other networks and newspapers showcased our ignorance on a national scale.
Looks as though the antics of those little liberal monkeys might have translated into an even larger win for Ann Coulter.
Liberals are the most intolerant, hate-filled people.

Something they just keep demonstrating, over and over...
Ann, YOU the woman!
Close-minded self-rightious liberals suck a$$...
(Oops, they baited me into it!)
It is amazing this story mentions the money Ms. Coulter collected but wasn't given the chance to earn!! She tried, and her brave appearance in this hall of hate should be noted by the MSM which never reports the truth..they manufacture it!! I watched Ms. Coulter after the event, and her frustration was clearly evident. Shame on these Liberals and their closed minds. America has a name for this and it has a lot to do with TREASON!
Over on the lefty blogs do they have a lot of stories about conservative intolerance? I wonder if they talk about incidents in which right wings disrupt America hating lefty speakers. I somehow doubt it since that almost never seems to happen.

One of the first things I ever did as in the student government at Columbia in 1957 was to volunteer to manage a scheduled speech by someone who'd been involved with the House Un-American Affairs Committee during the early 50s.
As a freshman from Texas, I had no pre-formed ideas about HUAC nor any particular political affiliation.
I was amazed at the reaction of many so-called 'liberals' in the audience. Their shouting and disruptive behavior virtually ended the talk.
So much for free speech and an exchange of ideas.

It's time the presidents of these colleges explained free speech to these liberal PROFESSORS who are responsible for these kids being out of control.
That must be one hell of a high stack. Out of curiousity, which Universities do you regard as conservative?
Once again, liberals show how free speech only applies to them.
White-Flag Liberal Democrats
Unfortunately it starts long before that...thanks to K-12 public schools where the majority of teachers thinks it's just fine to indoctrinate the kids with a liberal mindset. It's for the children to turn them into seething liberal foam-at-the-mouth, free speech for me but not for thee types by the time they reach college.
So all your employees attended Bob Jones and Hillsdale?
And just what did the College pay Crying Cindy for her time. Bet she got more.
