• Dutch insist troops must not be stranded again
• Peacekeepers to free up US forces from next May
The Srebrenica massacre, the worst atrocity in Europe since the Nazi era, cast a shadow over Afghanistan yesterday when the Dutch government demanded guarantees that its troops would not face a similar disaster again.
A plan by Nato to send 6,000 troops into southern Afghanistan was subject to last-minute wrangling as the Dutch government voiced fears that its troops could be stranded. Condoleezza Rice, the US secretary of state, and other Nato foreign ministers, offered reassurances that around 1,000 Dutch troops would be supported when the new peacekeeping mission was launched next year.

The Washington Post should be forced to come up with the locations of these secret prisons and they should cough up the name of the traitorous SOB who supposedly gave them this story.

let's not be too critical on the Dutch...they supported us all the way in Iraq and in Afghanistan....
I'm not trying to be, really.
I'm just pointing out that if the Dutch government is going to say, "Let's not have any more Srebrenicas", then they ought to follow that up by adding, "...by giving our soldiers whatever it is they need to fight".
The issue i Iraq shouldn't be about wihdrawal..instead it should be about body armor and protection of soldiers from guerillas..
We should send the boy scouts to conquer Europe. They don't have a military and we could take the last of the good beer and cheese.

Well, to a point. Force protection is certainly among the foremost concerns of operational and tactical commanders.
But they also understand that hunkering down in "safe areas" a la Bosnia is not going to make the bad guys go away. Killing them will, though.
Best defense being a good offense and all that.
