Broward County on Thursday narrowed its choices for high school Biology I textbooks to two finalists, both of which have been under scrutiny by Christian conservatives who want to change the way students learn about the origin of life.
Both have edited passages about evolution theory during the past few years after receiving complaints from the Discovery Institute. The think tank sponsors research on intelligent design, which argues life is so complicated, it must have been fashioned by a higher being. One of the books also has added a short section on creationism.

The only thing a hypothesis is required to do is fit available facts. TRUTH is not a particularly useful concept in science.
Deoends on who it is.
How?
Because some systems fail before others and it may be difficult to determine if the failure is irreversible. In a corpse where all systems have shut down and no energy flow can be detected, we can be sure the body is dead.
"And it's usually medical professionals, not scientists, who make the determination.
Their knowledge comes from scientists.
I agee completely with you, that the vast majority of people believe in God, and that the vast majority of those same people believe in evolution...there does seem to be an attempt to say, that because someone believes in God, they therefore believe in ID...most polls I see, simply do not make that leap...I have seen numerous polls, where people are asked if they believe in God, and the majority do say yes...when those same people are asked if they believe in evolution, a smaller majority again answer yes...a small percentage say they believe in ID/creationism, but the greater number say they believe in evolution...
So one cannot, make the leap that because someone says that they believe in God, that necessarily means they also believe in ID/creationism...the polls simply do not show that...
Many people easily allow for a belief in God, with a belief in evolution...but of course, there will always be those who will come onto the thread and declare that such people either dont understand the Bible at all, or have a wrong and incomplete understanding of the Bible...well, that is just their opinion...of course, they just do love to cry 'atheist' about anyone who believes in evolution, refusing to believe that anyone can believe in God and evolution at the same time...
But for millions, belief in God and belief in evolution are compatible...
In fact yes. It may not have happened here with the participants, but it has happened to lurkers in other forums.
It happened with Michael Denton. He's flipped 180 degrees. There are other ID advocates on these threads who are heavily religious, but who accept the age of the earth and common descent.
There are very few here that increase my blood pressure. You aren't one of them.
What you both say about whether or not minds are changed on these threads was very important, especially concerning the lurkers....because altho the active participants on these threads may not change their minds or their viewpoints, the lurkers,(which I am most of the time), those who feel unqualified to participate in the thread(again, I would put myself into that category most of the time)these lurkers, do appreciate all the input, from both sides, especially for the numerous links to sites with reliable information...
I know there are numerous lurkers on these threads, perhaps even more lurkers than there are active participants...so at least for myself, primarily a lurker, there is great appreciation for these threads, and for those who provide valuable information...
Yes.
According to CPU Magazine, FR has almost twice as many unique visitors as Drudge, and far more than any "blog".
And I am sure, that many of those who log onto FR, rarely, if ever post...they log on here to read the various threads, and perhaps learn something...even online, many people are timid about revealing how they feel about a particular subject, or they(like me), just dont have a tough enough skin to find themselves getting flamed...so I think everyone who does post, needs to always be aware, that for everyone who actually does post, there are many many more lurkers just simply reading and learning...
I consider world-wide geologic stratification and fossil records to be decent evidence in favor of a worldwide flood, in addition to human records regarding such a thing.
I have opinions, and most of the time I try to post opinions about ideas rather than people. I hit the back button on a third of my posts after I realize I have lost my temper. Sometimes I let them through and regret it.
Is the presence of particle matter that retains its properties from generation to generation an "available fact?"
And I do think, that often tempers can flare, and all too often, posters do let posts go through, which they later wish that they had not done...I think that is only natural...its when a particular poster does nothing but spout off, with nothing really relevant to the subject of the thread, and continues that sort of behavior, most posters and even the lurkers know that person is just a 'troll', there for the pure joy of acting like an ass...
When otherwise thoughtful posters do get heated, and say something they wish they had not, most other posters and lurkes also recognize that as well...
We can all tell who is there for thoughtful discussion, and who is there to try to make a fuss and in general make themselves look even stupider...
