Europeans Search for Conciliation With U.S. Some States Are Assuaged By Rice on Prison Policy

By Glenn Kessler Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, December 9, 2005; Page A16

BRUSSELS, Dec. 8 -- European foreign ministers attempted to make peace with the United States Thursday over the controversy concerning treatment of terrorist suspects, with many saying they were satisfied with visiting Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's explanations of U.S. policy.

But lingering concerns were evident when Dutch officials said they would press to set up a prison of their own in Afghanistan so that any suspects captured by Dutch troops there would not be transferred to Guantanamo Bay or other American facilities.

The Dutch are so sensitive to the needs of towelheads. How about their own friggin' citizens who keep getting murdered by jihadists?

The only terrorists the Dutch are likely to catch are wayward al-Qaeda fugitives who stop by for emergency dentistry and forget to hide their suicide belts.

All kidding aside, cheers for Ms. Rice. She got the Euro-twits to publicly state that the issue is over, and she gave up nothing in return. Talk about deft handling. I sure hope she runs in '08.

Actually, I like this idea. I hate it that my tax money is being spent on three hots and cot for these roaches in the first place. Let's not feed and clothe them for years. If they don't give reliable information on the spot, cut them loose so we can kill them on the battlefield.

I agree. Let the Dutch set up as many prisons as they want. Condi did a good job. The lady has cojones.

Rice had dinner with 31 of her European colleagues Wednesday in Brussels. Aides were not included...

Yipes. One on one with Condi. I know where my bet would land.

It's high time we go after the CIA leakers. They are traitors.

The euros might be doing some grandstanding on the torture issue, but its all pandering to its citizens.

Let's put it this way. The euro powers that be don't want to make too big a deal about it since they have behind the scenes policies on torturing to get intel as well. Behind the scenes, they are assisting the US in these matters since they know its benefits them as well.
Many don't want to see more bombings like what happened in Spain and England.

There's some subtlety and sophistication in their leaks and the Nigergate scheme, aided by connivance by the MSM. Hopefully Porter Goss is IDing the leakers and preparing a purge. The Ivy League elites who took over the agency after all the true field hands were ousted in the 70's are going to get what's coming to them - turfed out of their cozy sinecures to scratch for a living in the real world.
