KU professor Paul Mirecki reported that two men who did not appreciate his expressed views on Christianity beat him on a Kansas road. He is no longer taking phone calls or talking to the press. He has also resigned as chairman of the Religious Studies Department.

Skeptics have begun to poke holes in Mirecki's story.

Mirecki had posted a number of anti-Christian comments on the Internet. KU Chancellor Hemenway described as "repugnant and vile," Mirecki was forced to apologize and drop the course.

Mirecki first said: two white men, in their 30s or 40s, tailgating him in a pickup. "I just pulled over hoping they would pass, and then they pulled up real close behind," he told the reporters. "They got out, and I made the mistake of getting out."

There are no eyewitnesses. Mirecki did not identify the truck's license plate. He reported the incident at 6:40 a.m.

Mirecki's story has been reported on CNN, CBS, and others.

skeptics are hoping that the Douglas County Sheriffs ask which breakfast establishment he was driving. Most places open at that time of day would be in Lawrence proper. Mirecki's trip to town is all along well-lit streets.

Then there is the question of Mirecki's behavior at the scene. Two men were tailgating him. They pulled over and got out, and then, as Mirecki tells it, he too got out on a dark country road to confront them. These details trouble, but they do not undo Mirecki's story, and it would be imprudent to suggest otherwise until the inquiry is complete.

The media is totally mum now. I think the writing is on the wall. Funny how this won't get reported unless the "fundies" keep hounding them.
Yawn! Another lying RAT cornered and exposed. This stuff is starting to sound like the old dog bits man story.
Above in the threat Loud Mine linked Michele's article about the good professor. There she links his letter of resignation. The letter is totally dishonest claiming he's resigning over the class rather than why he was really forced to resign - expressed bigotry and hatred of Christians.
If he is lying there, to people he knows are aware of the truth, it is not a stretch to suspect he is lying about being attacked by the Christians he hates and smears in his classes.
It is certainly ironic that fellow dedicated to survival of the fittest would beat himself up. But it would be no surprise if this guy really suffered a thumping at the hands of a couple PO'd people. One does not establish a university class dedicated to ridiculing other people's beliefs without inviting negative consequences. Some how the "cause and effect" nature of this incident has been lost on our local scientists. They'd rather use this episode to paint creationists in a bad light.
Hmmm, funny you mention that. Have "Patrick Henry" and his merry band weighed in yet?
That only works outside of Judeo/Christian theologies
Yes, I remember that story (and a number of previous similar ones). But at least those profs admitted that the claimed incident hadn't occurred. Naturally, all these people justify such staged frauds as drawing urgently needed attention to the alleged fact that things like this really do happen frequently. As I recall, one scam along these lines was actually perpetrated by a Catholic nun, who used the same sort of leftobabble to justify her actions after she was exposed.
Guess this means the cops didn't find any red wool fibers on the guy.
