KU professor Paul Mirecki reported that two men who did not appreciate his expressed views on Christianity beat him on a Kansas road. He is no longer taking phone calls or talking to the press. He has also resigned as chairman of the Religious Studies Department.

Skeptics have begun to poke holes in Mirecki's story.

Mirecki had posted a number of anti-Christian comments on the Internet. KU Chancellor Hemenway described as "repugnant and vile," Mirecki was forced to apologize and drop the course.

Mirecki first said: two white men, in their 30s or 40s, tailgating him in a pickup. "I just pulled over hoping they would pass, and then they pulled up real close behind," he told the reporters. "They got out, and I made the mistake of getting out."

There are no eyewitnesses. Mirecki did not identify the truck's license plate. He reported the incident at 6:40 a.m.

Mirecki's story has been reported on CNN, CBS, and others.

skeptics are hoping that the Douglas County Sheriffs ask which breakfast establishment he was driving. Most places open at that time of day would be in Lawrence proper. Mirecki's trip to town is all along well-lit streets.

Then there is the question of Mirecki's behavior at the scene. Two men were tailgating him. They pulled over and got out, and then, as Mirecki tells it, he too got out on a dark country road to confront them. These details trouble, but they do not undo Mirecki's story, and it would be imprudent to suggest otherwise until the inquiry is complete.

Making false charges against someone because of their religion? Why I believe that's A HATE CRIME!
Mirecki claims he was taking an early morning drive to clear his head. Presumably, he was returning to Lawrence to have breakfast, so that would not be inconsistent with his claims.
Do they believe it? Or do they just SAY they believe it? Plenty of them are willing to lie for their cause, just like the one who made up the story in the first place.
always like to put a face to the name...why do liberals almost always look as if they could use a shave, shampoo and a haircut? Nice crispy freshly ironed shirt you got there boy...
Ironic given the context of the evo/ID debate.
"How in the world did this guy get a job at a college professor? He doesn't sound very bright to me."
He graduated from Harvard's Theological school no less.
What undoes his story is his basic character: He is a frequent poster on a site for athiests and signs his anti-Christian rants as "Evil Dr. P." The professor presents a public face of a laid-back, reasonable guy, but when no one is looking (e-mails and message sites) he is an angry, hateful bigot.
I don't think his story about being beat up will square because he does not appear to be a man of character. And, his story is all over the board when it could be straight-forward. Sure looks like a practiced liar.
This is one sick f**k. I know it sounds rather sexist, but garbage like this may be a big reason fewer men are enrolling in college. Rather than spend $80,000 for four years of anti-religious, anti- American, feminist and just plain general liberal idiot propaganda, take the money and start a business!
What a vile pig.
Malkin: I contacted the Lawrence Memorial Hospital for more details on the nature of Mirecki's injuries. Citing HIPAA regulations, a hospital spokeswoman declined to provide any more information. She did state that Mirecki was not hospitalized, as many MSM reports have claimed, but came to the emergency room and was "treated and released."
I should note that I made this point on another thread before Malkin's report.
Just like the bimbo chick runaway bride story that smelled fishy, this one is even fishier. He pulled over, got out of his car, unarmed, to confront two tailgaters on a dark road?? Right.
Now I might do something like that but my Glock would be loaded and in my hand.
A CNN story ensued and the police cracked down. For two weeks, if you were anywhere NEAR a skateboard in the city of Davis, you would experience a "felony stop" (officer pulls gun, issues you orders to get down on the concrete, etc.).
I know because I was one of those suspected "skate punks".
The woman had made it all up, and she was backed up by all the liberal groups in town, and they never took back any of the strident statements of support that they had made on her behalf.
Looks like he could be Ward Churchill's little brother.
Oh brother.
12 years of Catholic school and I missed the "big part of the Catholic experience" where you're supposed to drink your own puke.
"I don't think most Catholics really know what they are supposed to believe, they just go home and use condoms, and some of them beat their wives and husbands."
Quite the brilliant and incisive statement on Catholicism. I'd sure be proud if I was paying him to teach my kids. I always wonder, how do people at this level of intellect even manage to get past the 9th grade, let alone acquire college degrees?
About as long as it will takes for certain evos to recognize and denounce the terpitude in starting a university class dedicated to ridiculing the beliefs of others.
Ward Churchill's brother maybe?
If this were the case, he would not have been able to drive himself to the hospital, and likely would have been left on the side of the road by any would be aytackers. He certainly would not have been able to teach a class that afternoon; and he certainly would have mentioned it to his class if he could have. On top of that, he's not sure where the attack occurred? Shouldn't be hard to find, because if he was severely beaten, there should be some blood somewhere on the side of the road; and in his car, as well.
Besides, what idiot gets out of his car when confronted in such a manner? Will be interesting to find out where he spent the night on Sunday; and with whom?
Equating creationism with mythology dismayed some legislators, but many became angry when they learned of an e-mail Mirecki wrote to a listserv about the course. The Mirecki e-mail referred to the recent controversy over whether intelligent design should be taught in Kansas public schools.
The fundies want it all taught in a science class, but this will be a nice slap in their big fat face by teaching it as a religious studies class under the category mythology, Mirecki wrote.
He signed the note Doing my part (to upset) the religious right, Evil Dr. P.

(Looks like the 'evil religious right' ignored him and he just couldn't handle it, LOL!)
Anyone dumb enough to that, should not be allowed to procreate (according to the survival of the fittest) and even more certainly not be allowed to teach.
