Handgun bans work so well in Washington DC, they moved right up the ladder to take the #1 lead in the crime rate. Prime Minister Paul Martin should look there for inspiration.

Martin, who made the election campaign announcement at a safer communities announcement in Toronto, wants to choke off the supply of handguns in this country, particularly those brought into the country illegally and sold on the black market.
How is banning legal handguns going to choke of the supply of guns brought into the country illegally????? Another case of left-wing illogic at work.

Great point, hopefully this will lower our crime rate and cut the costs of housing worthless felons.

How is a gun ban going to stop "handguns....brought into the country illegally and sold on the black market"

That doesn't matter because it's all about the emotional horror of the gun, and that's good enough for braindead fools.

Oh you're just nuts. Of course it will help! When you make crime illegal, only criminals will be criminals! Er, I mean, if you make a law against breaking the law, then law-breakers will think twice! Er, I mean...

Here's a nice little cartoon for those idiots:

BAN GUNS?

Do they really think they are going to get theives to give up their guns?

"There will be some exemptions to the ban, including maintaining the right for police to carry the weapons. The prime minister also announced a significant increase in resources for police to deal with the ban."

If they pass the ban, then why would the police need guns at all. Obviously, if it were illegal for anyone to own a handgun, then the bad guys would not have them. They would reconsider using a handgun to rob a convenience store for fear of the legal consequences for breaking the law.

Picture the planning. "We have to subdue the clerk immediately. Aaron, put the gun away! We will not be using them. It is illegal."

wants to choke off the supply of handguns in this country, particularly those brought into the country illegally and sold on the black market.

So the best way to make handguns illegally in the country illegal, is to pass a law making them illegal.

That is what I read, correct?

"Hunting rights and shotguns will follow. Soon they'll have the same gun free crime free society they have already achieved in Britain. /sarcasm/"

.....Followed by bows and arrows. But think of the challenge as hunters master the art of killing a moose with a sling shot and stones. oooohhhh. aaaahhhhh.

They'll join Britain in being a Mensa Society entrance question:

Firearms.
Snow.

Aren't these the same people who passed a uniform registration law that cost over $2 billion (Canadian, which is still a lot of money) to get working?

And, as I read the papers, it didn't lower the crime rate one bit?

The prohibition, part of a five-point plan to battle violent crime, would cover those handguns already registered and would require gun-owners to sell or hand in for compensation their collections.

I might actually go for this if I get a hand in deciding the just compensation. My C&C sidearm is worth $6 million. That is the worth of the rest of my life and I will never again need to leave my house. I can protect it from the inside.

Attention: All criminals please disregard this message, this law does not affect you since you do not follow the law.

This law is aimed at the law abiding citizens who own guns and the harm they refuse to do to Canada.

We will keep you informed as to when these law abiding citizens have been disarmed so that you may do your deeds to society with a little more sense of safety.

Carry on....

No, I think he wants to make them *slightly* more expensive for criminals to buy. For about a month. At that point, criminals will start moving them in bulk drug shipments to take advantage of market who's profitabilty has been maximized by an unworkable prohibition.

It's stupid, but if you live here you tend to get exposed to stupid a lot.

Once again kiddies.

How is a gun ban going to stop "handguns....brought into the country illegally and sold on the black market"

Exactly the same way prohibition prevented bootleg booze and Al Capone.
