No, Windsor is big time NDP. They are left of the Liberal Party. They are "loud and proud" socialists of the class war strain.

Also, the so called handgun ban in Canada is liberal wishful thinking baloney (for now). You just need the proper paperwork to bring in handguns to Canada and it needs to be for sporting purposes. Getting a "restricted weapons" license in Canada is very doable. Don't believe otherwise. Yes there are hoops to jump, but it is very similar to the CCW classes in Michigan. Same criteria and standards also. Stricter storage laws in Canada of course, and you have to be a collector, hobbyist, or sport shooter to get a gun, but you're gonna go to the range once in awhile anyways so it isn't a problem. You cannot state that you are buying it for personal protection unless you know the right people. Its vert discretionary as is concealed carry in Canada. Judges and the like can only get those.

The US/Canada crossing of Windsor-Detroit is a natural due to it's location.

Windsor is a 'gateway' city, just as much as Detroit.

Without Detroit, Windsor wouldn't exist. That defines a suburb to me. BTW I check with some of the more authoritative demographic and stats websites and they list Windsor as a suburb of Detroit also.

Thanks for the info. I always use the term Lib, at least the NDP is honest about what they want, not like the Dems up in Detroit.

BTW, just wonder how much investment in Windsor was done during the 20's. Canadan Club was easy to get, and someone made a lot of money back then.

Don't scapegoat gun owners

(Letter of the day)

National Post
Published: Friday, December 09, 2005

I have been a supporter of the NDP for most of my life. I have campaigned for them. I have worked on Parliament Hill for them. I believe in social justice. I believe in a woman's right to choose. I believe that people's consensual social arrangements should not be any of the state's business whether heterosexual or homosexual.

This election I will be voting for the Conservatives for the first time ever. That vote will be based on a personal opposition to being scapegoated as a gun owner by the Liberal party.

There is no gun crisis in this country. There is a crime problem in our urban centres. It is based on poverty, on the fact that too many young men believe they can't get a fair shake, and on a growing drug culture

There is a mental illness crisis in this country, one that allows dangerous mentally ill people to fall through the cracks.

The citizens of this country who have gone through the many hoops necessary to legally own a gun of any kind are among the most law-abiding people in Canada. They do not have criminal records, they do not have a history of mental illness. They have gone through a thorough training course in firearms safety.

For the Liberal party to indirectly blame me, as a gun owner, for what is happening in Toronto is not merely dishonest -- it is malicious and nasty. I will do my best to defeat any Liberal candidate who voices support for this policy.

The 1920's were Windsor's golden age. There is a whole neighborhood called Walkerville surrounding the Hiram Walker Distillery in Windsor with some of the nicest looking homes in the city. Of course our friend Paul Martin grew up in that neighborhood (and the house is currently for sale with no buyers)
