What's missing from the White House Christmas card? Christmas.
This month, as in every December since he took office, President Bush sent out cards with a generic end-of-the-year message, wishing 1.4 million of his close friends and supporters a happy "holiday season."
Many people are thrilled to get a White House Christmas card, no matter what the greeting inside. But some conservative Christians are reacting as if Bush stuck coal in their stockings.

Only in Washington! They make a big deal of having a Christmas Tree. So what does the Prez do?
I wonder if his administration has a lump of coal for a brain.
I have to go with Tony Snow's comments today about these White House Christmas cards. He nailed it.
I'm certainly not going to get my panties in a wad over what another person uses for a Christmas or holiday card. That's a bit intrusive to demand a CHRISTMAS CARD.
At least the third post.
Wow. Not one word about the Bible verse that was in the card. Why is that not surprizing?
I've received my card, and I think it is just fine.
"With best wishes for a holiday season of hope and happiness. 2005"
But wait, there's more:
"The Lord is my strength and my shield, in Him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him."
Psalm 28:7 (RSV)
George Bush Laura Bush
What did Tony Snow say?
Does the fact that the message inside is a verse from the Bible mean nothing to these people?
This administration has triangulated this issue from day one. If I would have gotten "the card" I would have thrown it away immediately. It's just basically more string pulling to the puppet & typical of any leader in this "Two-Party Cartel". How low can these two parties go? How sad today to see another cartel player get voted in here in Orange County, CA but at least it was not by as much as some thought. So maybe progress is happening.
Big deal. This year Hanukkah starts on Dec. 25th too. So he sends "Happy Holiday" or "Season's Greetings" cards. Should he send a Christmas card to the Christian Republicans and a Happy Hanukkah card to the Jewish Republicans? Why not a Season's Greetings card?
I have reached outrage overload on the Christmas issue. I got my card. It's beautiful. The verse is very touching. It's fine.
At least he didn't send a Festivus Card... can you imagine what the Airing of The Grievances might sound like in Washington DC?
Thanks for update on contents.
The root for "holiday" means holy day. While they arent the majority, not everyone in the GOP celebrates Christmas. There is nothing wrong with mentioning all of the seasons holidays without taking away from one of them. The Christmas Card by Bush doesnt seem to have put Christmas in a bad light, rather include everyone in the party.
I agree, and long live Texas, by the way. One of my relatives, Richard Miller, fought at the Alamo. Another, Deaf Smith, was Sam Houston's scout.
I agree with Snow, and this is much ado about nothing.
For those of us that don't live in here, it is new!
Get over it!
