Hope this is not a duplicate. No more details yet Passengers getting off
the markets apparantly reacted wildly to this event but now they appear to have stabilized.
I haven't heard that but I can see it would make sense for walk up suicide bombings like that in Israel. It is doubtful, however, that they would use someone truly mentally handicapped (rather than just deranged) on an airline bombing which requires some sophistication.
This is just an unfortunate information. Family members must make sure that when loved ones that are mentally handicapped or have mental disorders (such as bi-polar disorder) travel on airlines, that they make sure that they are properly supervised and medicated.
More than likely, this person did not have a bomb and I'm sure they air marshals are not going to be thrilled that they had to shoot a person with mental disabilities. They did their job though - and they were left with no choice.
Also the other way around, as in my case. Diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic at age 12, then bipolar a few years later.
You are spot-on. Air Marshalls are highly trained, and rehearse these situations many times in training. I give the shooter the benefit of the doubt. This is the first incident of this type I can remember in the 51 months since 9/11. Obviously, these air Marshalls aren't trigger-happy.

I'm sorry for his wife's loss but if this man was truly bipolar and she knew he was unmedicated she put herself and the other passengers and her husband in *serious* jeopardy. She is partially responsible for his ultimate end.
The air marshals did their job.
I think you just might owe airport screeners an apology. If you already have issued a mea culpa, please disregard.

Misdiagnosed as bipolar and having these type of known tendencies and outbursts? From the gist of what is being said....I don't believe that is the case here.
the female passengers couldn't even bring their own purses off the plane - ut oh - what about the passengers who need meds i their purses - could be another incident/sarc.

Sorry to say this, but these days it is a fact of life. If you are on an airplane, and say the magic words, (ie: refer to explosives, weapons, bomb, etc.) you can expect to be apprehended by an armed Federal Marshall. Resist him, or reach for something and you will be shot.
And Thank God for it! God Bless the Air Marshall that did his duty today.
