This was shooting too fast. In my opinion--but I don't have all the facts except he was bipolar and his wife was screaming "don't shoot!! He is sick" and the final fact--no bomb. Actually shooting could blow the bomb. I am not impressed by "Barny Fife" air marshalls

I wouldn't want to fly on a plane with a bullet hole in it somewhere.

You'd probably never notice. A bullet hole is much smaller than the pressure regulation valve, which even at altitude will be partly to mostly open. OTOH, if the bullet hit something important, like a fuel or hydraulic line, ya might want to get that fixed before you take off.

Sounds a little odd for a U.S. Marshall to be on this flight without some sort of tip.

It was from Medellin Columbia. Not so unusual, although two agents, assuming both are Federal Sky Marshals, rather than DEA agents, might be more than a bit unusual.

Who announces they have a bomb instead of just simply detonating it? Doesn't sound like a terrorist to me.

Just repeating what's already been said... think about it. You have an international layover for customs and boarding passengers. At this time the pilot cabin is open and personnel are moving about possibly even in the jetway...how easy to hijack it from there...

I'm aware of that but that situation was far different. If this guy was faking about the bomb, then there would be no consequences. On the 9/11 planes, the terrorists used the claim that they had a bomb to control the passengers - that was not an issue in this situation.

I don't think it was a bad shoot at all today. It was unfortunate and surely very sad to the person's family and loved ones. The family really should have taken more precautions when this guy was flying. The airport is no place to be shouting "i have a bomb".

Not necessarily. You can't gamble in this post-9/11 world we live in. This guy made two mistakes. Number one, he was completely out of his skull crazy, and number two, he should have taken his medication.
