Iraq war was 'blatant state terrorism': Nobel laureate Pinter

In a fierce critique Wednesday ahead of the Nobel awards ceremony, literature laureate Harold Pinter branded the war on Iraq "an act of blatant state terrorism" and demanded the prosecutions of US President George W. Bush and Britain's Tony Blair.

"The invasion of Iraq was a bandit act, an act of blatant state terrorism, demonstrating absolute contempt for the concept of international law," Pinter said in a pre-recorded lecture broadcast by the Swedish Academy.

The Academy, which awards the Nobel Literature Prize, aired the interview, recorded Sunday in London, because Pinter is too sick to travel to Sweden for the lecture or pick up the award in person at Saturday's ceremony.

"How many people do you have to kill before you qualify to be described as a mass murderer and a war criminal?" Pinter asked.

"One hundred thousand? More than enough, I would have thought. Therefore it is just that Bush and Blair be arraigned before the International Criminal Court of Justice," he added.

He can get fellow Nobel noodle-head Jimmy Carter to join his cause.

What "terrorism?" It was an outright invasion. It is not entirely ironic that words, to Pinter, mean what he intends them to mean and not what they really mean.

That would include such locutions as "war criminal" and "international law." Pinter is a writer of fiction. It shows.

Winning a Nobel prize used to mean something. It still does mean something, I guess. It means you are a freakin' kook.

Pinter's works as a playwright were so profound that I was required to read them in college. But for the life of me, I can't remember what they were. Obviously, they were of lasting impact. /sarcasm

A Deranged laureate joins the ranks of Kerry, Murtha, Boxer, Kennedy, Dean....seems to be a world wide meltdown of cowards and dishonorable men and women. Socialists seem to fall into this inglorious, unhinged category.

Killing just one might constitute a war crime, depending upon how it's done. The number is irrelevant as to whether or not a war crime has been committed. And distinguising murder from killing in combat is apparentlhy above this guy.Two half-baked idea do not equate into one real idea.

The Nobel Awards must be renamed: The Nobelefist Awards.

I think they were all about the absurdity of the banal... or maybe it was the banality of the absurd, I can't remember!

See, these guys say they shouldn't be censored for their views, and they shouldn't be denied awards. But then they use the award ceremonies and the people giving the awards for their own soapbox.

If I were giving out awards, I'd stop giving it to self-centered people who think the world owes them free publicity for their hate.

I, who am rarely mean-spirited, wonder if the illness has anything to do with the amount of liberal-socialistic-progressive trash in his diet.

PS, who IS this guy anyway that anyone would even care what he says or thinks?

What I really find curious is that in the United States mainstream media, Tony Blair almost never gets mention. Why? He doesn't fit the "Bush lied" narrative on Iraq. While the wailing lunatics can sell the idea of Bush, Rove, and company lying about the war, Tony throws a wrench into their narrative because he isn't a conservative, isn't a Fundamentalist, and doesn't own stock in Haliburton. So why did Tony go along with the invasion of Iraq? Answer that one, left-wing lunatics.

I've still never seen anyone be able to point out how the Iraq war was against international law. They make the statement, but they can't support it.

The war wasn't illegal. The US did not target civilians. President Bush has done nothing to qualify as a war criminal.

Just another liberal liar.
