Update:
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The trial of Saddam Hussein resumed Wednesday after a lengthy delay but without the former president, who had declared the day before that he would not take part in an "unjust" court.
The seven other defendants and Saddam's lawyers were present in the courtroom when Chief Judge Rizgar Mohammed Amin convened the session at 3 p.m., about four hours late.
Amin said the court would inform Saddam about the proceedings that took place during his absence.

Saddam Hussein refuses to take part in the audience of Wednesday
BAGHDAD - the judges of the High Iraqi penal Court and the lawyers of Saddam Hussein are brought together Wednesday before the audience because of the refusal of the former Iraqi president to take part in it, one learned near the court.
Saddam Hussein had reproached Tuesday evening the court for having decided to hold a new audience Wednesday, stressing that after those of Monday and Tuesday, it did not have any more clean clothes and could not smoke nor to go. "Go to the devil!", it had launched in conclusion.

[Put some panties on his head nad get that army gal to bring him in.]
Best idea yet. And make sure President Bush ordered it, it would raise his popularity amongst sane American and Iraq peoples rise to a new high.
The terroists Islamics and the democrats and media would go further into insanity screaming, torture, torture!
President Bush scowling and saying "Go ahead, dems, make my day." Ha,ha!
Fine! Your attendance is excused from the trial.
But! Your attendance at your execution is Mandatory!
That great American (not), Ramsey Clark, was probably the one who advised him to not attend the trial. Would anyone be surprised?
EXACTLY! Sheesh, have the weenie LIBERALS made inroads ALREADY in IRAQ?
,,, I remember the Wizard used to go to elaborate lengths to avoid census night... something I'll do in March 2006 for a first time.
Who cares as long as he doesn't miss his hanging!
Things would have been so much simpler if the guy who found Saddam had just lobbed in a grenade. Then they could have removed him from the spider hole with a shop vac.
Yeah, hindsight is perfect!
That didn't happen...instead he's on trial. What are the odds of him being executed?
Are you convinced he'll be hanged? Viewing our crazy, mixed-up world today, I'm not.
IF court decides to destroy the monster, I won't be choosy about their method. A firing squad, for instance, could do the job.
It shouldn't matter what rage and antics and bad-mannered tantrums that Saddam Hussein displays.
Justice will be done. And the Hangman awaits.
When he is found Guilty (as he surely shall), the final act will be played out in its inevitable drama, with Saddam suspended a few feet above ground, hands tied behind his back and doing the Tyburn Jig, twisting in the timeless hot wind of Baghdad. With the crowd cheering.
All the rest of this nonsensical comedy of a trial's Defense is a mere distraction.
In the spirit of fair play and for the sake of world peace, Saddam's Defense team should get it's act together. It must grab the nasty mungrel by the ears and give him a good shake. And a shave and a thorough wash, with disinfectant. And a good slap, maybe three. Then gag him and make a pretense of defending his heinous arse.
Hanging Saddam would be a pleasure for all parties concerned, but will give no comfort to the tired Middle East. There are crims aplenty there, awaiting the hangman's next appointment.
Heaven forbid if they sentence him to death... he'll just refuse to attend !
Geez, sounds like this trial is being held in Kalifornia..."Saddam REFUSES to attend trial..."
Since when can ANYONE refuse to attend a trial???
Go Figure!!!!!
