THERE IS A GOD!- CBS To Stream 'March Madness' Free
Broadcasting & Cable.com ^ | 12/6/05 | John Eggerton

CBS will stream the majority of NCAA Division I basketball playoff games (otherwise known as "March Madness") through a new deal with the NCAA and cable channel College Sports Television, (CSTV) which CBS plans to acquire for $325 million effective January 2006.

CBS, which has the broadcast rights to the games, will Webcast for free out-of-market contests via ncaapsorts.com, which is overseen by CBS SportsLine.com. While the CBS affiliate in each market will get the exclusive coverage of the game of greatest regional interest (a Duke game in Durham, N.C., for example), simultaneous games between other teams will be available in the market.

"For the first time ever, fans everywhere will have an opportunity to see their teams play live, at no charge, on NCAAsports.com via our new broadband channel, no matter where or when that game is being played," said Larry Kramer, President of CBS Digital Media, in a statement.

NCAA March Madness on Demand will include the sweet 16 games (the regional semifinals), but not the final seven games--elite eight, final four and championship games.

Also available will be highlights, interviews, press conferences and more.

The only time I want to see "There is a God" and "CBS" in the same headline is if the phrase "Declares Bankruptcy" is in it, too.

Shucks, I guess I'm just all excited about actually being able to watch the tournament game I want to watch without the annoying breakaways to Greg Gumble or to games I don't care about.

I agree. This is going to be pretty cool. I hope they will be ready for the bandwidth.

"Certainly, Duke is Duke...they're on the computah more than 'Leave it to Beavah' reruns..."

And think of the precipitous drop in worker productivity during the tournament, now that folks can watch complete games in their cubicles.

Say, whom do you think sweats more during a game- Pete Gillen or Gary Williams?

During a game? Gary Williams. At the end of the season when it's time to start firing bad coaches? Pete Gillen, definitely.

No need to go out for those looong Thursday and Friday lunches. Now I can stay at my desk and not do any work!

Yeah, that's what I thought, too. His jacket just gets soaked during the games. On the other hand, I think we have to give points to Gary for projectile spittle. He certainly is excitable!

That's some picture. Was that from the game where the Terp fans threw filled water bottles at the head of Carlos Boozer's motner? Classy.
