Gay Groups Fear Alleged Ford Deal To End Gay Media Ads

DETROIT -- A Mississippi-based conservative Christian group has canceled a boycott of Ford Motor Company.

The Tupelo-based American Family Association first announced the boycott against Ford and related brands on May 31.

AFA criticized Ford as being too gay-friendly, giving thousands of dollars to gay rights groups, offering benefits to same-sex couples and actively recruiting gay employees.

Gay rights activists now say they fear there may be a secret deal between the AFA and the company. Ford has denied any such deal.

After a spring meeting with a group of Ford dealers, the association said in June that it was suspending its boycott until at least the beginning of December. Last week, the American Family Association said it was canceling the protest action altogether.

On Monday, several gay rights groups expressed concern about reports that there had been a secret deal between Ford and the AFA to end Ford's advertising in gay media.

Ford spokesman Mike Moran said its Jaguar and Land Rover brands will no longer be advertised in gay publications, while there would be no change at Volvo.

He said the decision wasn't linked to the boycott.

A few years ago in the class action GM offered me (and other class members: complaint was the location of the gas tank outside the frame was negligence, I believe) a $1000 credit if I traded in my `83 Chevy. Suppose they were trying to make lemonaid out of a lemon.
I kept it, and that 305s still running strong.

As a gesture of appeasement, Ford could revive the Probe....I imagine ads for the Explorer still will appear in homosexual puublications....
