If you have to pray towards Mecca 5 times each day, then you spend all day looking at the clock and thinking about what you will pray about. Being a Muslim leaves you no time to think about topics outside the religion or to come up with new ideas. And even if you did come up with a new idea, it would be condemned as non-islamic.
So Muslims remain poor because they have no time to be any other way.
Actually, they don't think about what to pray about. The prayers are fixed and memorized.
They don't pray, rather mumble a few words and bend over.
