Im awake . Sort of . Well the band plays on. The tunes are not rare but old. The audience gets smaller and smaller. It is now obvious to most that this is so. America chugs along with them or without them.

I think what happened was, white liberals said they wanted to help those poor black folk (but were ready to move the minute one of them moved in next door.) Once Blacks got the opportunities and rights they really earned, however, the liberals realized that they'd be losing a generation of people who'd been dependent on them for recognition. So, the libs found other ways to turn back the clock and keep the next generation dependent (and voting for them.)

No way!
I mean, just look at what Socialism has done for Africa, compared to those third world Asian backwaters like Taiwan and South Korea. /sar.

Occasionally it escapes the readers notice that I am a person of color, specifically Black. With regard to most issues it usually doesnt matter, but when I speak with authority on race politics and someone makes the assumption that Im White, of course - they freak.Sounds familiar, eh?

Blacks were actually among the most socially conservative groups in America
One poster pointed out to me that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr actually voted Republican -- and he did hold conservative values. It's too bad that that great man was killed in his prime, otherwise we wouldn't have had this corruption of black values. But it's not too late, as Bill Cosby's showing.

I really wish Thomas Sowell had a larger voice in this country. He's been saying this for years but most black Americans don't hear his message.

In the Sixties, I recall having Black neighbors who, despite the inequities in our society at that time, owned businesses, rental property and portfolios and were retiring with money in the bank.
This is what really upsets me when I let myself think of it. They understood - hard work then own, then rent to others, (so others are working for you) then retire well off if not rich.
How have we as a nation, not just the Black Community, forgotten this?

We've forgotten this because we've been become an entitlement nation. Entitlements didn't make this country great. Hard work, honor and respect for your fellow citizen did.

Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in higher percentages than Democrats (House: 80% Republicans, 63% Democrats; Senate: 82% Republicans, 69% Democrats).Great read.
