Not only were neither Saddam Hussein nor Iraq mentioned in a film about the Iraq-Kuwait war, but the Manchurian corporation's technicians rewire the brains of the abducted U.S. soldiers with false memories of al-Qaida-type jihadists so that they will lay the blame for their terrorist acts on an innocent Muslim jihadist.
Why don't the movies have plausible, real-world villains anymore? One reason is that a plethora of stereotype-sensitive advocacy groups, representing everyone from hyphenated ethnic minorities and the physically handicapped to Army and CIA veterans, now maintain liaisons in Hollywood to protect their images. The studios themselves often have "outreach programs" in which executives review scripts and characters with representatives from these groups...

Huh? What is this about?
The sad part is many DUmbasses and neo-hippies actually believe this.. The reptile cult controling the world is almost more plausable than Syriana.
Wouldn't want to make the jihadists mad. The left is so stupid that they don't even realize that it is THEM and their godlessness that the Muslims hate the most about America.
Hollywood lies.
Sorry, had to excerpt it. It's about Hollywood never using realistic villians anymore.
i like cheese
In the new Warner Bros. political thriller, Syriana, the villain is not al-Qaida, an enemy state, the Mafia, or even a psychotic serial killer. Rather, it's the big oil companies, which manipulate terrorism, wars, and social unrest to drive up oil prices (which have risen almost as much as movie ticket prices in the last 10 years).
I remember this movie, when it was called 'Wag the Dog'. Amazing to me how every other reason for war is not plausible, not self-proclaimed jihadists, not terrorists or pirates, not communists or former communists or dictators. No, the only evil that Clooney-Damon braintrust can acknowledge is the evil corporate Republican type, copycatting the other recent evil corporate man movies, not even original in that. Right. Shilling for Kerry and the Dems once again.
I don't believe they consider this unrealistic.. on the contrary, this fits right into their warped world view..
yes and no. It's pretty clear from correspondence that they cite in the article that they ORIGINALLY did plan on having 'un-PC' villains but that complaints and 'outreach group surveys' gave them negative feedback.
Of course, what's stupid is how much clout can CAIR possibly have compared to the savvy American public which can sniff out this junk? Wouldn't Sum of All Fears have been a BETTER movie had they stuck with the original motley assortment of villains?
I remember a similar bashing of Rules of Engagement because the reviewer found it difficult to believe Muslims in Yemen had any beef with the US. This was before the Cole, of course.
So, I think Hollywood would make more un-PC flicks, and often they START making the movie with the un-PC villain but it gets turned into something else.
THAT SAID, they also do delight in making the white businessman the villain. It's as if these people are afraid of making political statements (such as having communists as bad guys --'red baiting') and would rather bash corporations.
Sounds like grounds for a price gouging congressional investigation to me.
The vast majority of things that come out of Hollywood are pro-socialist, anti-American propaganda. What else is new?
If you want to see a movie with realistic villains, I highly recommend Serenity. Interesting plot, great action scenes, and, best of all, it's one of the few movies that doesn't portray Big Government as riding in on a white horse to save the day.
The villains - the Alliance is a lot like the U.N. If the U.N. had any competence, that is.
Thanks, that one completely passed under my radar. I'll check it out. Available on DVD now, too, isn't it?
And perhaps an excessive proffits tax.
It comes out on DVD December 20.
Serenity is the movie version of the (cancelled) TV series Firefly. On the TV show, the representatives of the evil Alliance had blue hands. The U.N. has blue helmets.
Probably just coincidence, but I can dream...
You're so right. And others have noticed. Although I'm not a big fan, I've always liked Keenan Ivory Wayans' "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" for its satire. I particularly liked the climax, where it turns out Mr Big is John Vernon, who played Dean Wormer in Animal House (the villain in so many other TV shows and movies). He's revealed, and Keenan reacts in shock, "YOU!"
Mr. Big replies, "Yeah, Me. Who else did you expect?" or something to that effect.
I finally caught up with Firefly this fall when SciFi channel re-ran them.
One of the best space shows ever.
For the un-informed ... it's kind of Cowboys in space...exciting... and funny as hell.
As Ann said about, Hollywood liberals becoming indignant when you question their patriotism, but simultaneously work overtime to give terrorists a cushion for the next attack and laugh at Americans who love their country and hate the enemy.
