Actually, what we're doing there (for Chuckie's edification) is forcing them to accept what passes in America for democracy.

Our nation has proven over these 270 years that you can take an idea, like our founding fathers had, and jump up and down on it to make it conform to what our elected congresshogs want it to be.

Of course, if our founding fathers would take a look at what's been done to that idea they'd have a fit.

They would wonder at what we have allowed our elected political class to do to us.

I wish the leadership country -- both parties, that is -- would give up this silly, childesh notion that "spreading freedom and democracy around the world" is somehow a moral/political mandate of the United States. In some cases, "freedom and democracy" is the last thing this country really wants -- and I've made the case that Iraq is a perfect example of such.

The development of a viable nation-state in Iraq is absolutely impossible, and anyone who thinks it would work out in the end is naive, delusional, or both.
