If you don't fight back at the criminals they might not hurt you.

Gun control is stupid and great for criminals. Gun control+not arming your police is even dumber and even better for criminals.

Aside from the editorializing at the end, that article was refreshingly objective. Quite a change from the American MSM.

Considering the Islamofacist threat evidenced by 7/11, I would think that Brit police would WANT weapons so that they might kill a terrorist bomber rather than allow them to kill dozens of innocent civilians.
I guess not, they prefer the US Democrat approach: Wait until they kill you, then we'll go arrest them.

Obviously they just need MORE stringent gun laws
as the ones they have dont seem to be working and the criminals keep disobeying their current lawze...
The police also must stay disarmed at all times this way
showing the violent criminals the moral highground.
Police need to lead the way and by example...once the criminals see that it is immoral to rape, steal, and kill
and even more immoral to carry firearms..surely they will stop...
A few good people must be sacrificed for the good of the many...right Karl?

It seems that in Britain ordinary officers are instructed not to engage with dangerous criminals. But if police officers cant engage with them, who can?Trick question. The answer is to arm the populace, and keep the police unarmed. If a cop is allowed to be better armed than a law-abiding citizen, you have what we like to call a "police state".

Sounds to me as though he learned a great lesson about police work - DON'T DO what the Brits do. Arm yourself and be ready to bring the dirtbags down.
The UK is in real trouble because of their policy against self-defense for victims.
While they shove their elistist noses in the air at the American "cowboy" method of law enforcement, we lose far fewer cops.

That was the first time Id ever let someone wanted for attempted murder simply walk away from me, said Johnson. It went against everything I knew. I thought it was my duty to arrest these people. It seems that in Britain ordinary officers are instructed not to engage with dangerous criminals. But if police officers cant engage with them, who can?
With a policy like this, the Brits are consciously cutting the police force's enforcement ability by an order of tremendous magnitude. It's as if the force was a third of it's size just by a policy decision removing 2/3 of it's enforcement ability. Incredible.

"In America, officers spend weeks learning how to cope with armed incidents. But in Britain, Johnson said, he was never shown how to handle or unload a firearm or told how to respond to an armed robbery. Officers spend more time learning about how to process paperwork than dealing with violent situations. We are trained more like social workers than police officers.
The training I received in Britain in dealing with armed incidents was virtually non-existent. It consisted of a 30-minute lecture from a firearms officer who said: If you see the business end of a gun or anyone holding a gun . . . turn, run and get away as quickly as possible.
That is unbelievable. What is the point of police officers if they are not trained to handle violent situations???? Mind boggling.

Johnson accepted that America is more violent than Britain, with a gun culture contributing to a murder rate 17 times higher than here. He recognised, too, that many more police officers are murdered in America 57 last year compared with just one here proportionately about 11 times as manyIt's not 17 times as high, it's 3 times as high - 4.3/100,000 compared to 1.4/100,000.

Johnson accepted that America is more violent than Britain, with a gun culture contributing to a murder rate 17 times higher than here. - Not so - the Murder rate in the UK 0.0140633 per 1,000 people, the rate is 0.042802 per 1,000 people in the United States. That's a rate of 3 times the UK rate, not 17. Source http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/cri_mur_cap
