Put yourself in their shoes. Imagine how terrible it must be to have to deal with racist whites who show their racism by taking time off from work, and donating time and money to help you! Really little different from the old south racism of violence and segregation if you think about it!

In all honesty, the ARC isn't where I volunteer especially after seeing them operate here after a storm. The one's who volunteer are the best but there are other organizations who provide so much more for a lot less money. The Southern Baptists Disaster Relief, Salvation Army, Samaritans Purse, Operation Blessing, Friend Ships and other faith based organizations did the dirty work while the ARC rode around town.

Now, let's remember who's reporting things and what their agenda is. I'm sorry but most of the people I have encountered from the NOLA area have been grateful and thankful for all of the help and outpouring of generousity typical of Americans helping out in a crisis. Why aren't we hearing the good stories out there? Believe me they are out there. It doesn't serve the left's purpose though so here they continue to stir the pot in order to deflect the attention of the democratic leadership failures.

I've never seen any black divers or swimmers on the US Olympic team.

"The volunteers that are there," Pogue said, "are well-meaning, well-trained and well-disciplined. [But] they do not fully appreciate the differences that other people bring to the party."

Want your "differences" to be "fully appreciated?" Have your "differences" be something worthy of respect. The "communities of color" aren't looking too good to the rest of us, especially when they whine about taking charity from us.

The Houma Indians have been here a LONG time. Let's just say they were here before the French and Spanish.

During his explorations for the year 1682, French explorer LaSalle noted the existence of a Houma village along the eastern side of the Mississippi, at an area situated just across the Red River. Already in 1706, conflicts between the French and the British explorers drove the Houmas Indians to settle further south to be closer to the French with whom they had had friendly and close ties from the arrival of the very first French explorers to Louisiana. They established two new villages near present-day Donaldsonville, one village on each side of the Mississippi.

A number of these natives did stay in this region of Louisiana during the 18th century, but others settled even more southerly whey they established the new village of "Chufuhuma", exactly where is situated today the city of Houma. Arrivals of still more white settlers further pushed the Houmas to settle way down the Louisiana territory, in the marshlands along bayou DuLac, and down south as far as Golden Meadow, on bayou Lafourche.

Here, they contined their traditionnal way of farming, but to survive in these marshes, they had to find new ways of subsistance, such as hunting, trapping and even fishing, very much as many of them have found this way of life up to the present day.

I just love it when people who are recipients of charity demand more charity. So grateful, so classy.

Thank you kindly Cajun....but if I and my ancestors had settled in say Spain in the 17th century...and in the few hundred years in between...I might just consider speaking the language of that country to make my life easier.

Sadly, I think that this type of whining after such a disaster, will hinder the help and chairty for the victims of future hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, etc.

My father gave his life to help Katrina victims. He was retired and worked as a volunteer at the Streams of Life Ministry in Baton Rouge. Although he had a heart condition, he would spend days helping to unload refrigerated trucks of donated food and use his own pickup to help distribute it to the area churches that were sheltering Katrina victims in their sanctuaries. He collapsed and died in September unloading a truck. BTW, yes, my father was white.

I'm telling you as a person here on the ground dealing with another hurricane, the media and the race baiters are the primary source for stirring up the dissention. They tried to pull the same thing in SWLA when Rita hit but we did not allow them to get away with it. So the media promptly moved back to Katrina this and Katrina that. The media probably found one person to say that it was difficult communicating and blew things way out of proportion.

Oh and the Houma Indians didn't settle here they were here before the French settled the area and way before the first English settler made it here.

I'll support a federal law that prevents whites from volunteering in a percentage greater than in the group to be helped. Send the white volunteers home if they aren't wanted.

Thousands of those "victims" were able workers. They should have been taking care of/sharing with others.

I remember reading stories at the time that able body flood "victims" were asked to help out at the shelters and they refused!

I'm so sorry for your loss! It's sad but I'm sure God will smile on him for what he was doing at the time.

Damn it: Tell them to learn English. My son travels all over the world. Every country has been an opportunity to learn something. These people want to be or are citizens?

Knowing me, I would have left the first time I heard that I was the wrong color and spoke the wrong language.
