I am at odds with lots of FReepers lots of the time. I can't explain why they support some of the pols that they do.
McCain Feingold was a deal breaker for me. I don't forgive and forget. I hold grudges against those who would take my liberty.
Too many -- even here -- listen on to pleasing sounding words, but never look at what these pols do or how they vote. Words, especially those at a fund raiser, are mostly meaningless.
People -- even here -- don't realize that the GOP isn't really asking their opinion in order to guide GOP policy when they get those little questionaires. What they are doing is mining for information so that they can send a red meat letter to you that hits on your hot button issues in order to open up your wallet.
Republicans are swayed by emotion too. Sometimes we are just better at finding a rational explanation for our decisions. Sometimes not.
If McCain-Feingold was the deal-breaker for you and you won't vote for McCain or Zell Miller because of it, that's a perfectly honorable and principled position to take. Impeachment was the deal breaker for me and there's no way in hell I will ever vote for Clintonite Congressman Pete King, I don't care how many times that idiot "defends Bush" on MSNBC. I don't forgive and forget him either. King is a panderer who loves whoever is in power at the time.
Add Prime Choice to the list of freepers who "listen to words, but never look at what these pols do or how they vote." Compare post #332 where he asks for an extensive list of McCain's positions and voting records and post #368 where he gets pissed off after I gave him precisely that and asked for his take on McCain's record. (which, BTW, he had promised to review and get back to me on)
It a damn shame becuase his anti-Arnold posts are based entirely around Arnold's liberal, pro-Democrat record instead of ad hominid attacks like "Arnie's a NAZI".
McCain Feingold is an unforgiveable infringement on our political process.
Knowing what would happen later, I wouldn't forgive Stalin before he killed anybody.
Knowing what is in store for our republic if democracy is damaged, I wouldn't forgive the architects of the damage (for one, McCain).
