At times I have refused to shop at a specific Wal-Mart. It had to do with service or I should say the lack of service. When the problems were corrected I returned. I believe it to have been a store management issue rather than a corporation issue.

Overall I think Wal-Mart and like stores helped the economic boom in the 90's. You can buy reasonable good quality stuff for a good price.

... This should disturb progressives, since so much Walton money goes to support conservative causes

In a nutshell.

Wal-Mart gives to the common man what all the Liberals think Government should but never will.

Wal-Mart offers a wide selection of quality goods at the lowest price. At the same time they give tens of thousands of employees a chance to earn good money, and have a career which offers them a chance to better themselves while providing for their families.

This isn't about Wal-Mart; it's about Capitalism vs. Socialism.

As someone pointed out up-thread, it's disgusting to see so many Freepers fall into the "I'd rather have Socialism" column.

Wal-Mart's low prices have helped the poor more than all the government programs combined, because there is an absence of "unintended consequences" on the beneficiaries.

This is extremely threatening to those who wish for capitalism to be a zero-sum game.

The writers name should be "FeatherHead" rather than "Featherstone".

I usually try to spead my $$$'s around at Christmas. But with the assault on WalMart this season, Guess where I'm doing all my shopping.

I guess the libs think those 1.3 million Walmart employees would be better off being 100% on the public teat.

How far do those gubmint checks go when shopping downtown?

Guess we'd have to give 'em more.

I don't understand the knock about WalMart and China. Yes, a lot of goods are made in China. But I'm buying the same national brands there that I buy at Target, Sears, or the local grocery store.

If the left hates WalMart there must be a reason to shop there. And I will. It's sad to see so many FReepers jump on the bandwagon with leftist union organizers.

I don't think you have to be a leftist or a union thug to want to buy American made goods. When Sam Walton was alive he used to take pride in the fact that the majority of the goods sold in his stores were American made. In fact, I remember TV commercials where he proudly proclaimed the fact that his buyers went out of their way to stock his stores with American made goods. That simply is not the case now.

Keep spending and sending your dollars to China. They are all but certain to come back in another form.

I am glad to finally start seeing some freepers who make sense about Walmart. Too many people on this board don't have a clue about economics or how our free market system works, and it shows when they bash Walmart, China, etc. Walmart is the best thing that has happened to America ever IMO--it has set a free market business model that has made everyone's standard of living much higher than it would have been without Walmart. This business model has made other retailers lower prices and become more efficient as well, which just raises our standard of living.
