Experts at the meeting noted that migration not only affects the lives of the migrants and the countries to which they emigrate, but also their own hometowns, where relatives receive the money they send home. "In some places, they've stopped working the land, and live off the money (remittances)," Hoekman said.

"...migration not only affects the lives of the migrants and the countries to which they emigrate, but also their own hometowns,..."Lets see, we are well aquainted with the heavy negative impact of the illegal aliens on the United States. And we are supposed to believe that "In some places, they've stopped working the land, and live off the money (remittances)," is the corresponding and balancing "negative" on the other side of the equation?
Doesn't look like much of a balancing negative to me.
