Bill Bennett: Purple Fingers for Iraq
NewsMax ^ | 12/1/05 | NewsMax

Bill Bennett has asked Americans for a colorful favor that will help show support for democracy throughout the world.

"On Dec. 12, when elections begin in Iraq,” Bennett told Neil Cavuto in a Fox News Channel interview, "let’s see many Americans color their right index finger purple in solidarity for the people voting in free elections in Iraq.”

Bennett, who supports the war against terrorism and the continued liberation of Iraq, said President Bush is wise to "stay the course” in the face of negative attacks by Democrats and jelly-legged critics who are calling for the U.S. to pull troops from Iraq. "Many people in America are more distressed about it (the war in Iraq) than the people who are living through the crisis,” Bennett said. "Staying the course is a prudent policy and one that will ensure that the 2000 or so soldiers we have lost will not have died in vain.”

Bennett said the war on terrorism – not just in Iraq – is "succeeding on every front,” but it goes against "conventional wisdom” of media companies to report that truth.

"Within what I call the ‘alien media nation’ it is hard to sustain and win a war,” Bennett said. "If the president holds firm on his principles, he will be fine.

"Americans should watch closely the voting in Iraq," he said. "I think it will do us all good to see democracy in action."

I would think that any arts and crafts store would have it. People use it for calligraphy among other things. Or just a purple magic marker.

The simple explanation for the recent avalanche of negative news stories and Democratic party posturing is to be found on 13 December, when the Iraq government is elected. A lot of people with vested interests in dismissing this event will be doing everything they can to drown it out. That includes al Qaeda.

I think a purple finger on that day will serve to remind the ones whose hands are over their ears screaming "quagmire! Quagmire!" to drown out the sound of truth that we made it to the pass. An excellent suggestion.

If you're a Democrat from New Orleans or Chicago be sure to color all ten of your fingers.

Teachers' supply stores. Red ink is out because it hurts kids' self esteem...

Well, I inked my finger before I'm more than willing to do it again. Spread this idea to all conservative outlets and folks in Washington. I stand with our President, Troops and the Iraqi's on their election day.

But then what if you cross paths with "a one-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater"?

"I said Mr. Purple People Eater, what's your line? He said it's eatin' purple people and it sure is fine"

(I'm not insane, this really was a popular song once, a long time ago; a time when no one would ever believe that some day they wouldn't call it "Christmas" anymore.)

"Give A Liberal The Purple Finger For Christmas."

Excellent suggestion. My index fingure will be purple and my middle finger red in case an aggressive stanz is needed in support of my index finger.

IIRC the washable, colored markers for kids have a purple in them. That would be a great way to carry it with you to put on other people's fingers and would wash off easily at the end of the day.

>>>Let's Roll" didn't catch on and neither will this.<<<

Bah Humbug to you! I still have a "LetsRoll" sticker on the rear-window wind-deflector of my Land Cruiser.....and frankly, I'm not so into fashion that I care that it "didn't catch on".

Like a Christmas card - its the thought that counts!!!
