When thinking of fads most people think of an item that enjoyed a brief moment of fantastic success then faded just as quickly into obscurity. Examples of this phenomenon are numerous: pet rocks, mood rings, Yahoo Serious, and the Hamster dance to name but a few. The careful reader will note the glue binding these items together is their questionable utility. The aforementioned items are all things that actually serve no discernable purpose. Hence, their meteoric rise to popularity is more surprising than the following stomach churning freefall into oblivion.

Don't care...
Still a fad.
Just what I was think...wha?
ipod: yawn
I bought the ipod when it first came out, now on my 3rd, I can't wait to get the video ipod.
Any other op[tions to the Nano? I love the small, thin size and lightweight but reports are the Nano scratches easily and has no FM tuner.
Apple is for weirdos.
The Internet is a fad too. It will soon pass...
I have an ipod for Audible books. It sucks. Only good for music, where you don't have to keep your place in an 8 hour 100 mb file for a week or two.
Someone's always conspiring to trick people into buying things they don't really want.
All iPods scratch easily. I've kept my iPod in a leather case for 15 months and it is still in perfect condition. My son who got a nano hasn't taken his out the leather case since the day we bought it for him.

Homosexuals with no kids to spend money on.
Sony Walkmen going for $0.25 at garage sales and not selling. Same for boomboxes. Everything's a fad when you look back over a decade.
It's very cool. I'm having fun right now converting all of my favorite concert DVD's to MP4 format and loading them on my Video iPod.
That's what they said about microwave ovens, too. You don't know how much you'll use it; until you get one. Before I got one, I thought iPods were a snobbish fashion statement. But now I have one, and bought another for the missus.
I carry approximately 12,000 songs with me, where ever I go. I have an FM transmitter so I can tune to MY radio station while in the car; or at home. What space I don't use for music, is used to backup my taxes, my email address book, internet bookmarks and other files I want preserved in case my computer hard disk dies. I also use this space to transport large files to friends and family. Yes, it's very, very handy.
And like a microwave oven; I can't imagine not having the convenience.
What ever it takes to keep the share holders happy...
