Troops Said to Oppose McCain Interrogation Restrictions

A congressman just back for Iraq says that the troops he spoke to overwhelmingly oppose a bill sponsored by Sen. John McCain that would restrict U.S. interrogators in the kind of techniques they can use while grilling terrorist suspects.

While visiting with GIs on the frontline this week, Rep. Jack Kingston said he talked to the enlisted men who deal with prisoners of war.

The Georgia Republican stressed that soldiers also told him that the U.S. guards who broke the law in the Abu Ghraib scandal last year should be punished. Kingston said that he will report his findings to the House in a "Dear Colleague" letter that would contain the information on the McCain amendment

"They feel that the McCain amendment is not an accurate portrayal of anything that is going on and they are really strongly against it and somewhat insulted by it," Kingston tells the Hill newspaper.

"[The terrorist suspects] aren’t people who have committed white collar crime," he said. "You do want to get information from them.”

Awww... but there's so many positives that could come from allowing our enemies to file brutality complaints against our brave fighting men and women!  Stupid military red necks.  What Michael Moore said is right, they're all sadists.

They should be more than "somewhat insulted" by McCain's amendment. Maybe Kingston was just trying to be diplomatic with his words.

I oppose McCain calling it TORTURE like the freaking scum on the left when they KNOW it is not torture to deprive someone of sleep or give them frequent face washings.

What is needed are stronger protocols to prevent sadistic abuse during chemical, physical, and verbal interrogation combined with "carrot" type privilege and reward systems. However, it is nearly impossible to work these out in detail politically and in truth they are a moving target in combat zones as techniques develop.

We should listen hard to those who put their lives on the line for our nation. They protect us; we should do what's necessary to protect them.

I was in the military and I'm sure this is the way the conversation went:

Kingston: "Tell me Corporal Smith, how do you feel about Senator McCain's ammendment?

Corporal Smith: "Golly gosh Jack! I just don't quite know what to think. I wouldn't want to be hasty or harsh, but I think I might be just the teenie weeniest (sp?) bit concerned about his comments."

Yeah, that's how it went...

Exactly, it's a line we have to trust to the men in the field who will live and die by the information we get. And their COs. The military will watch them for us deal with those who go over the line.

I've always felt that we need do what is necessary, not what is popular.

You don't have to be a soldier, marine, or prison guard to be insulted by IgnorantMcCain.

He has stabbed Bush in the back so many times as well as the Republican voting public.

I'm sick of this dog running on his POW-vietnam record. Time to FIDO (Forget It And Drive On).

Every Republican should forward this article to his or her Senators if they voted for that stupid amendment. I was astonished that both of Wyoming's Republican senators voted in favor of it. My emails to them were not kind.

At least Congressman Kingston sees the light.

Maybe the gutless Republicans that endorsed this amendment 90-9 would like to reconsider their damn vote about now? Or do the opinions of the people that are getting shot at by these murderers not count in your zeal to protect the terrorists?

Only nine Honorable Mentions voted against it.
