Long-time Expo goers wont be surprised to hear it, but on Thursday IDG World Expo confirmed that Apple CEO Steve Jobs will headline the 2006 Macworld Conference & Expo with his trademark keynote address.
The keynote address takes place on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at 9:00 AM. Macworld Expo itself takes place from January 9 - 13, 2006, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Calif.
Steves keynote is always a great way to kick off the biggest Mac event of the year, said David Korse, CEO of IDG World Expo.
IDG World Expo noted that the 2005 San Francisco Macworld Expo saw an 11 percent year-over-year increase in overall attendance, with a 13 percent increase in paid conference attendees, a 10 percent increase in exhibitors, and a 31 percent increase in the average number of hours spent on the show floor by attendees.
Korse said that the show management has added some new features to the January gathering, and is working hard to make this the most entertaining and informative Macworld ever.
IDG World Expo and Macworld are both owned by International Data Group (IDG).
It is somewhat surprising given the IDG - Apple row...
Steve probably wants MacTels announced, and the egotist wouldn't let anyone else do that.
I'd heard that it had escalated to a point where Apple was limiting their presence at all IDG events. (In addition to completely pulling out of EastCoast Expo even if it returns to Javits)
Not really a big shock, Steve Jobs to give the keynote address at January's Macworld, but will he say " Just one more thing... "
Maybe the shock has something to do with his health state.
May I say, I'm not a Mac owner, but Jobs is a genius and a national treasure.

Who is Steve Jobs?
Most of us probably won't agree with Jobs' political stances, but you have to admit he's a master showman and has pushed some pretty good products; the current and last generation iMacs--once you get over their somewhat iconoclastic design--are actually very nice computers, and of course Apple almost single-handedly made legal downloads of music highly desirable. I've played with the current iMac and it's really a very nice machine, especially if you can bump up the memory to 1 GB of RAM (which is not really that expensive to do nowadays).
To be on the cutting edge of three technological revolutions in one lifetime... incredible.
I don't own an iPod, either, by the way. But I have seen Toy Story.

Is Apple building cars now?
Yep!

Tommy, this comic describes the difference between Steve Jobs of Apple (he looks like a robot, but per the cartoonist he's meant to look more like a mad scientist) and the Dark Lord of Ubersoft, whose identity has to be pretty obvious.
I've always been on Steve's side, for exactly the reason given in the comic - he really strives for perfection, not mediocrity, in what he creates.
Incidentally, if you have an hour or so to kill, the current storyline (that appears to have just ended) is hilarious.

Steve Jobs will be there to keynote the SF MacWorld Expo until the day he dies.
He learned a lot after leaving Apple the first time, and he isn't likely to make the same mistakes that led to his last ouster.
But he's no less arrogant than he was then, but now he's riding the top of the wave, with a solid team of product designers behind him. Thankfully, he learned marketing and conservative business practices. He leaves his liberalism at home now.
