(WTNH, Dec. 1, 2005 Updated 2:00 PM ) _ A Waterbury alderman is charged in a hit-and-run that killed a 31-year-old woman. Michael D'Occhio is also accused of drunk driving.
The accident happened on Wednesday night on Lakewood Road in Waterbury. A car, driven by 29-year-old Democratic alderman DOcchio, was traveling east on Lakewood and struck Jennifer Catalani who was crossing the street. She suffered severe head trauma and was taken to St. Marys Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
D'Occhio fled the scene; he then called the Waterbury police to say he was involved in an accident. Waterbury police detectives arrived at his home, interviewed D'Occhio, seized his car and arrested him. Hes charged with felony evading responsibility, second degree manslaughter, and driving under the influence.
DOcchio was released on $150,000 bond and is due in court on December 14, 2005.
D'Occhio has served as alderman for the past four years, he is due to be sworn in for his third term tonight.

Ted Kennedy Lite.
What the hell, elect him to U.S. Senate.
Maybe Phoenix needs a new bishop.
Keep your eye on this trial... only because he's in a state controlled by DemocRATs.
This is the same town that had a mayor that was having an 'affair' with a 13 year old girl a few years ago.
What a hell hole.
I heard this story reported all day today during the newsbreaks on WTIC AM and WDRC AM. Not once did they mention this guy is a democRAT alderman. I finally learned he was a RAT tonight while watching the Channel 8/UPN 9 local news at 10pm. Even then they sort of "buried" that fact well into the report... it was not mentioned right away.
Please Freepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent Connecticut ping list.

They wish.
Giordano was sent to prison for, among other things, having improper relations with two girls, one eight years old and the other ten years old.

And to think that CT Republicans ran that bastard against for Senate against Lieberman in 2000. I always wondered if Giordano won the Senate seat would any of this crap about him ever come out.
Preview twice, post once...
"against for Senate against Lieberman in 2000."
shold be
"for Senate against Lieberman in 2000."
wow. A Waterbury politician NOT involved with money (legal, illegal, and the getting-of) or little girls?
[insert 'freezing hell' & 'flying pigs' material here]
That oughta be festive. Drinks on D'Occhio!
I've been seeing this story pop up all day in the MSM.
Until I read it here on FR - I did not know that he was a DEMOCRAT.
I suspected such as we all know that if he was an R they would have flaunted such with his name all day long.
Yup, the local MSM sure has done a good job in "burying" that fact, huh? Can you imagine if this guy was a Republican?!
Yeah, just WHAT is up with Waterbury, anyway? (I admit I'm not very familiar with the town)
He wasn't sworn in with the other aldermen/elected officials tonight per the local CT news.
Interesting. Wonder if he resigned in shame, or just has a mean hangover?
Waterbury is a typical industrial town in Connecticut. Only problem is that the industry left long ago. Just like the other industrial towns in Connecticut.
