University Cancels Class on Creationism

By JOHN MILBURN, Associated Press Writer 19 minutes ago

A University of Kansas course devoted to debunking creationism and intelligent design has been canceled after the professor caused a furor by sending an e-mail mocking Christian fundamentalists.

Twenty-five students had enrolled in the course, "Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationism and Other Religious Mythologies," which had been scheduled for the spring.

Professor Paul Mirecki, chairman of religious studies, canceled the class Wednesday, the university said.

Mirecki recently posted an e-mail on a student organization forum in which he referred to religious conservatives as "fundies" and said a course depicting intelligent design as mythology would be a "nice slap in their big fat face."

It will be a nice big slap in "his" face when he stands before God for judgement.

... and asks him the Riddle of Steel. If he doesn't know, he'll be cast out of Valhalla and God will laugh at him.

This professor is clearly a total creep.

However, a straightforward course on "Survey of Creation Beliefs," or something of that nature, would be interesting and informative. Too bad this person is not really interested in teaching, only in posturing.

They were just testing the waters, and were shocked when students actually enrolled. Back to the drawing board.

College students can recognize an easy A when they see it.

Dang, I would have loved taking this course. I would have failed, but I would have made the professor life miserable. In fact, I probably would withdraw on the last day I was eligble, so my GPA would not be affected. I would like to hear how someone like this thinks and speaks.

Looks like the University decide to cut its losses.

I bet the alumni were burning up the phone lines.

Another in a seemingly endless line of useless college professors.

Add me to the Genisis-predicted-every-step-of-the-latest-cosmological-physics-and-evolution ping list please.

I just can't figure out how a bunch of illiterate wandering shepherds were telling stories about creation long before anybody knew about plasma physics, the Big Bang, mass-energy conversion, solar formation, geophysics, geology, and plant development, and the domestication of mammals.

And these shepherds even knew that birds came from dinosaurs!

"And these shepherds even knew that birds came from dinosaurs!"

I must have played hookey from sunday school the day that they revealed that.

He may be a creep, but he is a child of God. I think he knows the truth. There is no other reason for his militancy. They say the dog that yelps the loudest is the one the "Rock" hit. We must ask God for him by name.

By one of those quirks of fate, I have had personal correspondence with Professor Mirecki on biblical issues. He’s a believer as far as I know. He’s not a fundamentalist, if by fundamentalist is meant a believer in the literal meaning of selective portions of the creation accounts.

I bought one of his books as a gift for my parish priest a few years ago, a book called “Gospel of the Savior,” a translation of a late gospel. Since my priest was taking a sabbatical to further study Biblical languages, he was very much pleased with Mirecki's book that includes an interlinear Greek/English section, showcasing the non-canonical gospel.

At any rate, I’m sure the Professor Mirecki regrets his rude outburst, and I hope he continues his contribution to biblical scholarship in the future.

[...Mirecki is a believer...)

He believes in something, but I don't know that it is Christianity. Read this article from World Net Daily.
