O'Reilly just tried to make up some nonsense (as always) about Iraq and Vietnam. O'Reilly's guest was Lt. Gen. Mcinerney, who explained to BOR that it takes years to develop good company, battalion and division commanders and this will take 5 to 10 years to achieve in Iraq.
O'Reilly pontificates and tells Mcinerney that in Vietnam our advisors ran the South Vietnamese units and we just trained the Vietnamese footsoldiers and that worked pretty good and we should do the same in Iraq and the real problem is we don't have enough Iraqi "riflemen" to take orders from our advisors like we did in Vietnam and "isn't that right?"
It was beautiful when Mcinerney said calmly "No, I don't think it is right" and Mcinerney further explains that HE WAS an advisor in Vietnam and he NEVER commanded the Vietnamese units, they of course had their own leaders and he only gave them advice and support.
O'Reilly being what he is, he of course interrupted Mcinerney and somehow pretended he hadn't just been smashed in the face with his own pie, and switched to the other guest. O'Reilly makes up so much based on his own egotistic bloviating it was great watching someone who knew what they were talking about calmly tell O'Reilly he's full of it.
And NO thread about it?????.....geeezz
he has been consistently inaccurate about Vietnam. Someone ought to make him read "A Better War."
As a matter of fact, in the latter stages of WWII in Europe, Eisenhower was confronted with a shortage of "warm bodies" to fill out the army. As a result, they pushed many thousands of raw recruits just out of basic training into the fight. I have read that even with battle hardened commanders, few of these troops survived. They were "cannon fodder" indeed.
The place sure has changed.
Bill's problem is lack of preparation to discuss some issues that appear on his show. His preparation was much better in the early days. He's getting complacent.
He has overextended himself with his radio program and his books. He's far too full of himself at this point and it's showing in the way he keeps making himself look foolish.
The problem with his remark about training the soldiers in six weeks, in essence, WAS his remarks..and since he is way off base in critisizing that...
IMHO>..it made his whole rant somewhat suspect.
Thanks!! I've never looked it up...only tried to remember what a freeper told me.
O'blowhard embarrasses himself nightly. I can't tell you the last time I've been able to listen to him.
