SAN FRANCISCO -- Crips co-founder Stanley Tookie Williams moved one step closer to the death chamber Wednesday when the California Supreme Court refused to reopen his case and halt the state's highest profile execution since the death penalty was reinstated.
Williams, in a last-ditch legal move, alleged that shoddy forensic testing and other errors may have wrongly sent him to San Quentin State Prison, where he is scheduled to die by lethal injection Dec. 13.
His lawyers asked that justices allow the re-examination of evidence that showed a shotgun registered to Williams was used to kill three people during a Pico Rivera motel robbery in 1979. They said the ballistics evidence was based on "junk science."
State prosecutors argued there was no legal basis to reopen the case. Allegations about the forensic shotgun evidence were "based upon innuendo, supposition and the patent bias of his purported expert, not upon allegations of fact,"

I thought that long guns were exempt from the "registration" stuff, and none of the registration crap started until way past 1979.

I believe the issue is the shotgun was under the legal length. To legally own one, you have to register it with the ATF as an SBR (short barrel rifle) and pay a $200 tax stamp. Its not paying the $200 that is a capital offense with the Feds.
I think he's just giving lip service...to make him look like he thought about it, etc.

It is amazing that as his time comes closer, the perp's life becomes more and more valuable to him; but the victim's lives remain just as worthless to him as they were the day he slaughtered them.
If it weren't "cruel and unusual", I'd give him a stay after the drugs began to flow, resuscitate him, and repeat at 3-7 day intervals for a month or two, before giving him a full dose.
Maybe about the third time, just give him a good "sleeper", and arrange for him to wake up "in Hell" for awhile, before yelling "April fool!" and putting him back in his cell for a few more days.
