Pirro Is Advised Not to Oppose Mrs. Clinton
NY Times ^ | November 30, 2005 | MICHAEL COOPER

ALBANY, Nov. 29 - Jeanine F. Pirro's bid to unseat Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton suffered an embarrassing setback on Tuesday when the State Legislature's most powerful Republican said she should call the whole thing off and run for state attorney general instead.

The remarks by the official, Joseph L. Bruno, the majority leader of the State Senate, forced out into the open simmering concerns about Ms. Pirro's candidacy, which has been beset by gaffes and fund-raising difficulties. And it heightened the sense that the state Republican Party is nervous about its future and riven by squabbles as its de facto leader, Gov. George E. Pataki, prepares to step down at the end of next year.

Mr. Bruno said that Ms. Pirro, who was elected Westchester district attorney three times, would be a better fit as a candidate for attorney general. "I have said from the beginning, and I know a lot of my colleagues, and people within the party, share the thought, that she would make a great attorney general," he said. "By background, by her experience, by her prosecutorial record. And I hope that before this procedure gets too much further, that Jeanine Pirro would reconsider and run for A.G."

While Mr. Bruno's remarks echo what some Republicans have been murmuring quietly for some time now, they put him at odds with both Governor Pataki, who endorsed Ms. Pirro for the Senate last month, and the chairman of the state Republican Party, Stephen J. Minarik III, who is supporting her Senate candidacy.

And while the remarks were hardly welcomed by the Pirro for Senate campaign, Ms. Pirro tried to put the best spin on it. "Senator Bruno is a respected majority leader and I appreciate his confidence in my abilities," she said in a terse, two-sentence written statement. "However..."

How do you choose in NY? Anyway, that was just an anti-Hillary contribution.

Not one red cent until they get their act together. Jeez, even if I endorse a 'Rat to stop a RINO disaster I'd still never give them $$.

Why would we stay home?, this is Hillary, I'd vote for Lenin if it meant defeating her.

IMHO, if the only reason we can articulate is that she is not Hillary, the pubbies in NY are in a world of hurt. IIRC, Hillary beat Lazio by at least 11%.

As a member of Hillary's Top Five hit list, I have survived more deadly obstacles placed in my path by the Clintons than any man standing. In March, 2004, Hillary's brother told a mutual acquaintance that he should stay far away from me because his sister told him "Peter Paul aint seen nothing yet compared to what they was gonna do to him."

This was after I survived 2 years waiting for extradition to New York, in Brazilian dungeons arranged by Bill Clinton when he coincidentally visited Brazil for the first time in his life, sixty days after I was unnecessarily detained while preparing to return to the US voluntarily. Bill spent an entire day at the US Embassy in Brasilia when he was there, which thereafter allowed my treatment by Brazilian authorities to violate every right I was entitled to under the treaty between the US and Brazil.

In the meantime, I got Hillary's finance director indicted and tried for election fraud and I won all appeals made by Hillary's lawyer David Kendall to get Hillary dismissed from my civil case.

As far as Pirro is concerned, she didnt have the stomach for the campaign against Hillary. When confronted with the evidence the government used in the Rosen trial to show that hillary won her electeion through campaign finance fraud, Pirro refused to get into the character issue and challenge Hillary's ongoing refusal to correct the three fraudulent FEC reports that are on file relating to her largest contribution, and to refund the illegal contribution as confirmed by the FBI. Pirro doesnt have the fire in the belly necessary to run against Hillary.

One is a socialist RINO the other is Satan's daughter.

Get the Hellbeast out of power then we can replace the RINO with someone even slightly conservative.

Tell them if Hillary is not replaced, she'll run in 2008.

And she won't be as gentle as Billybob. No amount of KY is going to soothe the pain.

Bruno is so far up Hillary's butt. Bruno is about as far to the left as Hillary is. He just says he is a Republican.

If he wants Pirro to back out that means Hillary is afraid of running against her.

Pirro will not win, but she will bloody Hillary enough that the nation will get to see it.

"Bruno's a Republican, isn't he?"

I dunno, R.Emmett Tyrell of the American Spectator often refers to Hillary as "his (Bill Clinton's) lovely wife Bruno". He also has referred to her as "the beardless Nixon in the White House" (during her husband's term)

Can anyone tell me if there any substantial differences on the issues between Pirro and Clinton?

Does it matter? One has a R by her name and the other has a D. And to true believer Republicans, it's more important that their 'team' wins than what sort of idiot they elect to represent their values.

Now to conservatives, who can't see a hill of beans difference between most of the political hacks, no there probably isn't a major difference between the two candidates

I had hopes that Jeanine Pirro could at least make a race of it. But her campaign has been stumbling and tentative. It makes me question her committment to the race.

Looks like the Hildabeast will be back in 2007.

How Un-American, to suggest that someone abandon their fight!!! I was never impressed with Pataki, and it sounds like the Republican party in NY is an embarrassment to the Nation! Pirro is feisty and just the ticket to run against hillary. The leftists are afraid. They know that Pirro can win.

That has a chilling aspect to the sound of it, like a mafia goon coming into a store and advising the owner to make his monthly protection payment.

I've met Joe Bruno.

This is a combo of pragmatism and ego politics, and not much more.

He is no fan of Hillary, and while he is no conservative, he also knows that he is about to lose his job because of the wretched way Pataki and co have bungled the GOP.

Gonna contribute to Slick Willie Weld's kitty, too ?

Bruno is leading the anti-weld camp and trying to push Golisano.
