I saw Fr Martin on PBS last night debating the subject with Fr Joseph Fessio, Provost of Ave Maria University. My wife and I sat in rapt attention as we finally heard a priest on TV articulate the faith with no qualifiers.

Fr Martin on the other hand loaded his speech with qualifiers and watered down any Gospel message.

When it was all done, we high-fived each other and fired off an email to Fr Fessio praising him for a job well done.

We need to pray continuously for priests such as these. They are under spiritual assault!

What did Fessio and Martin say? Martin appears to come down on the side of a strict understanding of this document, as would Fessio, I assume.

I remember seeing Bishop Fulton J Sheehan on TV every week at the height of the Cold War and there was no ambiguity in his talks.

Our daughter has applied to Ave Maria University. We met Fr. Fessio when we were down there last month for their Fall Open House. One of the larger groups of students is the Pre-Theologate program. I have high hopes for the priests whose ministries will be formed at Ave Maria. The young men we met were very nice, and very respectful.

We were pleased with the overall program at the school, and you can't beat the location! When we were there the first weekend of November, the high was 84 degrees!! Sure beat the 50's we were having back in MA.
