He just doesn't get it. Bush's poll numbers went down after the Schiavo thing, and they haven't gone back up.

Right... The criticism of the Social Conservatives isn't over his out-of-control spending; it's over the push for government intrusion.

It's a shame that many of the Christian Right fail to acknowledge that Jesus preached to people to try to change their hearts--He didn't try to convince the Romans to arrest those who behaved differently from how He'd have wanted them to behave. I don't recall Jesus pushing for legislating his morality on others.

I dont buy it's about spending. That's a red herring issue. Bush is TRIANGULATING (sp?) he doesn't have a choice in the matter.

Yep. The go-along-to-get-along big spending is a failure of the GOP to live up to its principles, and so is the nanny-statist big brotherism -- but they are two distinct failures, and many individual members of the party leadership are guilty of one failing but not the other.
