Republicans Denounce Ex-Lawmaker (Barf alert: NYT crows over Cunningham's resignation)
NYT ^ | 30 Nov 05 | By JOHN M. BRODER and CARL HULSE

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 29 - Concerned that the stain of former Representative Randy Cunningham's admission that he took bribes and evaded taxes could damage the party's prospects, President Bush and other Republican leaders issued strong denunciations of Mr. Cunningham's actions on Tuesday. With several investigations focusing on top Republican officials and growing public unease over the war in Iraq and economic policy at home, party leaders moved to distance themselves and their party from Mr. Cunningham's felony plea.

Duke's being held to a standard the Sh**head Party violates with impugnity every day. I'm livid over how this despicable hit job has taken down an honorable and good guy. And rather than circle the wagons a handful of RINOs are piling on! It's enough to make me ... never mind.

There is no excuse for Cunningham's criminal activity, NONE

If we excuse his actions, then we are no better than the democrats who defended Clinton

With all due respect, that is just so much BS. This isn't about Duke committing a few technical violations or getting a few free vacations out of the deal. He took cash directly from the Wade, deposited it in his personal bank account, and then steered contracts to Wade. This is not an honorable and good guy we're talking about. Duke Cunningham is a crook. Nobody, not even 'rats, gets away with that kind of blatant sale of influence for very long.

The man took over 2 1/2 million dollars in bribes. Bribes from Defense Contractors that could have put our brave military men and women at risk with the potential of shoddy work. I can come up with 2 1/2 million reasons why when describing Duke, honorable and good is not one of them.

Mol, you said what Cunningham did was wrong, and I agree.

Duke is one of my heroes, but I feel that he let everyone down, mostly himself.

That said, in my eyes, he reclaimed much honor by admitting his malfeasance like the man he is.

In these days of moral equivalence, perhaps it's time to take a very close and thorough look into all the questionable money that the Rodham/Clinton family has somehow accumulated.

I suspect that Duke Cunningham just might look squeaky clean by comparison (think cattle futures).

Any Republican who DOESN'T denounce this atrocity isn't a Republican I want near the public coffers.

You are correct ... he did let everyone down

And he also admited and took responsibility for his actions .. which is a lot more then can be said for many in Congress

It's sad what happen .. I liked him also .. but I can't condone what occurred .. it was wrong .. plain wrong

He didn't exactly turn himself in. How much honor is it to plead guilty after being charged? Whatever he did 40 years ago, the fact remains that today he is a stain upon the party and the congress.

I beg to strongly disagree with you!!!

Cunningham besmirched the Naval Service by his felonious
actions.

This has nothing to do with the parties involved. We all know that politicians -- given enough slack over a period of time -- will poison the well!

However, Cunningham has tainted MY Service! And, for that I shall never forgive him!

BTW, a crook is a crook is a crook.

Argue that one away, kind sir! If you can !

Standard answer to crowing libs over Duke Cunningham's shameful bribe taking:.....

Torrecelli was never man enough to admit his crimes. Your impeached Prez., Bill Clinton, had to go tell him to step down.

Pot calling kettle black......hummmmm?

Just because the Clintons are lying thieves does not make it ok for anyone else to do it. It's not "my party right or wrong". It's about accountability and honor and doing the right thing. We should DEMAND that from all of them.

OK. OK. Y'all have given me something to think about.

But I still don't like how the Demons drove this to the forefront considering the inarguable accumulation of criminal activity that's in their respective closets. Nor do I like how this report is part of a larger MSM conspiracy to fuel a witchhunt for non-existent corruption among GOP Congressional leadership.

We all know perception matters more than reality in a society where opinion is too often shaped by people whose motives are, to put it politely, suspect. I'm worried we'll soon find ourselves on the defensive. At the very least I'd like to see our "electeds" stay quiet on the matter.

I'm not going to circle up when someone commits a crime and is justly brought before the law for it.

I am not a Democrat. I am not a Liberal. That is what they do.

I don't want him hung, I'd object to an extended public lynching for the sadistic enjoyment alone. But he'll do his time as he earned and perhaps be the better for it in the end. I hope so.

Now if you want to lead a charge to point out the corruption on the Dem aisle, be my guest. The difference between a Rep and a Dem is that we don't excuse it. They do. Line them up and fire.

Agreed. Cunningham is a criminal; I am NOT sorry to see him go, and I would like for him to have gotten the MAX for each count.
