Don't have any statistics (I suppose they're out there somewhere) but in my daily commute on the NJ rt. 23 corridor,

I've only seen one bear kill on 23 in the past 6-7 years, but chances are likely that someone removes the bear carcass and to those of us parked in the 5 mile backup, miss it by the time we get there.

Two years ago I heard of one Car/bear accident on Canistear rd. A very very large male in the 600+ pound range.

Oh and are you finding traffic worse on 23 this year than ever? It's to the point I have to leave by 5:50am or I get caught in the Reservoir RD to Echo Lake Road crawl of agony.

The NJ Fish and Game council puts the average weight of NJ's Black Bears at 350lbs. At the Bear seminar they told us that the largest Bear they currently are tracking is over 700lbs and they expect at least one hunter to show up with a Bear over 750 lbs .

Can you believe it?... in New Jersey?

Which is a good explanation for the many times things are backed up and by the time you get to where the traffic starts moving again there is no obvious cause...

It's been a mess. I think that some sadist hireling of McGreedy is still hanging around and is in charge of messing with the timing of the lights to punnish those coming from that conservative part of the state that doesn't vote demonrat...

But remember when the back up was at the Butler doubles and then again at Mountain View.....

(Depending on where you are coming from and your destination, I find that it is often faster to run up to the NY thruway and come down 287 or 17/GSP. Of course, I'm coming from Orange Co about 13 mi north of Sussex...)
