Arnold to tap major Democrat to be his Chief of Staff

by Jon Fleischman - Publisher

11-29-2005 6:02 pm

The rule of six (if I hear at least six credible people tell me something, then as a confirmed rumor, I run with it) has struck again. I previously reported on rumors that Pat Clarey, the Governor's Chief of Staff (and a loyal Republican) would be stepping aside after the special election. Read that story here.

Well, apparently the Governor has decided to name Susan Kennedy as his Chief of Staff.

I am sure that if this plays out, Kennedy will be vetted by many who know her well. I can only judge her political ideology based on her resume, which includes these highlights (seriously, I am NOT making this up):

Kennedy has spent nearly the last three years as Gray Davis' appointee to the State Public Utilities Commission. Before that, she was a Deputy Chief of Staff and Cabinet Secretary for the infamously recalled Governor. (Kennedy's resume on the PUC website boasts that she was responsible for 'development of $100 billion state budget)

Before working for Gray Davis, Kennedy served as Communications Director and a senior staff member to Democrat United States Senator Dianne Feinstein (where, according to her own resume, she assisted the Senator with the development of legislation and policy initiatives...).

This next paragraph is straight from her resume (how could I improve on this):

Kennedy previously served as Executive Director of the California Democratic Party and as Executive Director of the California Abortion Rights Action League. She managed two of the most successful Get-Out-The-Vote campaigns in recent California history, including the 1992 Coordinated Campaign for Clinton/Gore and the 1998 Coordinated Campaign that elected Governor Gray Davis.

Right now I am a little bit shocked by this 'confirmed rumor' - actually, I would call it a 'very confirmed rumor' at this point.

I am not sure how Governor Schwarzenegger expects Republicans to react to this appointment. This is not an appointment to some peripheral position in his administration. The Chief of Staff is the most central role on the Governor's entire staff.

I think it would be premature to comment on a rumor, even a 'very confirmed' one at this point. But you can be sure that there will be a lot of questions, frustrations, concern and anger from the base if this turns out to be true.

While Republicans are not a majority in California by a long shot, there are still many million of us out here. It doesn't seem plausible that there was not one person who could ably serve in this capacity who agrees with the Governor's general philosophy enough to register in the same political party as he does.

Well, let's see how this plays out...

Jon

PS: I will offer an open invitation to any and all, whether in the administration, or friends thereof, or friends of Susan Kennedy (or Ms. Kennedy herself if this reaches her) to reach out to me, and help me understand why this appointment should not be interpreted as the big kiss-off to the GOP base.

Except that the Governor is responding to the wishes of the people of California, as expressed at the polls.

Bingo. And you can bet the threads in re CA, are going to get more and more vitriolic as "conservatives" stand "appalled" ... "Shocked, I tell you, Shocked" at what all else has to now happen. This isn't a freakin homecoming queen and king contest!!!!!

rant off.

If I saw that on TV, I'd be chuckling for hours.

Sadly, it probably wouldn't make it to TV, but I propose a purple finger protest starting right now. Which finger is up to you.

Have you had too much coffee and have gotten too jittery to listen to anybody but your own pre-concieved concockshuns???

It appears you didn't consider one of my carefully chosen words of instruction/correction directed your way in #145! Go back and read it again and LEARN your lesson for the day!!!

Don't just continue pushing the incorrect spin all the rest of the day!!! Take a Valium, or something, for Pete's sake...

The basic rule of thumb is that all areas that are not a major urban area are conservative, and big cities are all Democrat.

If you check out looking into that, it pretty much is the case not only in CA, but throughout the country.

We have some dumb conservatives here in CA. As you say, some who only believe in the purest views they have.
As an ideal, I agree with them, but in practice, every battle is won in steps, not all in one major war or vote.

Arnold is good in that he can bring businesses back.
He pit the political ball on the tee for Republicans to take back this state and we were pathetic in the challenge.

I guess we may have to go bankrupt as a state before even Republicans will bother in large numbers to vote.
As long as their own life is comfortable and are ignorant of the facts, they won't vote more than they need to, it's more important to go to Taco Bell!

I think you have a great idea, just use some easy to remove food dye.

I think before the 2006 elections you should mail Rush, Hannity and we should do it nationally against the Democrats wanting use to run and lose the war.

Then on a more personal state issue, maybe go to KFI John and Ken and others to make this a mission.

Who knows, might get on TV by then.

I credit you with a fabulous idea.

You raise a very good point.
What exactly will happen to individual citizens if CA goes bankrupt?

I'm going to dye my first finger purple, down to the knuckle.

When people ask, it will be an opportunity to talk about it right then ~ that we don't appreciate our freedom and must vote liberalism OUT.

As usual you have offered zero evidence that it was conservatives who didn't show up instead of finger-pointing the finger-to-the-wind/wishy-washy/"moderate"/backstabbing RINO clowns.

But hey, it's evident you must love the sound of your own voice. CLANG-CLANG-CLANG.

Now go put back on your Taco Bell hat and take care of that line, amigo. Customers waiting.

I've seen this. More times than I care to discuss at length. Makes me sick. I used to come up with all kinds of excuses for CA "conservatives". I don't any more.

We have some dumb conservatives here in CA. As you say, some who only believe in the purest views they have. As an ideal, I agree with them, but in practice, every battle is won in steps, not all in one major war or vote.

I am on the same page with you. I believe strongly, fervently in principle. But tactical steps in CA are CRITICAL.

I've seen far too many "conservatives" throw the baby out with the bath water. It's a cryin' shame. And just because one thing didn't go the way they wanted it to. Oh well. At least California still has good weather.

Over a 15 year span, I've watched the liberal "goo" seep. From the SF Bay Area.. watched it begin its creep into Sacramento and around those parts. And you know what? I met people along the way who were content to just pursue their "own life paths" and because they were so bloody sure someone else would do the "work" for them.

"As usual you have offered zero evidence that it was conservatives who didn't show up instead of finger-pointing the finger-to-the-wind/wishy-washy/"moderate"/backstabbing RINO clowns."

Turnout in GOP strongholds was extremely light, except for San Diego County--and their turnout was skewed by the fact that they were voting on a new mayor.

Sorry, you're going to have to do MUCH better than that. Republican turnout does not equate to conservative turnout, nor vice versa.

I've also gotten emails from over two dozen conservative Republicans that said they no-showed in order to cripple Schwarzenegger's re-election campaign next year. That good enough for ya?

Nope. I have no reason to believe a single word you say.

No True Conservative would ever pass on the chance to vote for parental notification for abortion or defund/defang the the left of union money.

The ones who would pass on or thwart such an opportunity would be abortion loving RINOs and RINO union shills. I met a few "Republican" teacher union shills when I was walking precincts.

"Nope. I have no reason to believe a single word you say."

In other words, if you don't like what you hear, you choose to not believe it. If you do like it, you choose to believe it.

Very well. I will now apply that standard to you. I now have every reason to believe that you are a homosexual child rapist. Disprove my belief.

You have shown no credibility and will make up stuff just to justify your unproven bullfeces.

Grow up.
