"no excuse for that....some game tickets, a plane ride or hunting trip or special edition 45-70...ok, I got it ...fair enough...been there, done that but this was way way over the top.
"

Situational ethics? I don't think so. A bribe's a bribe, whether it's an expensive one or a cheap-ass one.

I used to write product reviews for a magazine. The companies were always trying to give me stuff. I turned it all down, even the lousy cheap-ass t-shirts. It was a matter of principle. I didn't buy stock in the companies who made products I reviewed. I didn't "fly up there" to get a sneak peek, unless I paid for it myself.

The result? You could trust my reviews to be based on performance, rather than payoffs.

No bribe is the only bribe any politician should take, and that includes tickets and nights on the town. Anything else is unethical. Period!

"The MSM loves to tear down an American hero."

In this case the the journey from American hero to total scum was his own doing.....he used up his "Hero" points a few bribes ago

So, I take it Duke is a Democrat? I note that the AP story gives no party affiliation. Certainly, if a Republican had done this, his party would be named.

His weepy apology was really sickening. He wasn't crying until he got caught. Before that he was laughing his head off.
Seeing someone who sells his honor to the highest bidder like Duke did is worse than catching a sleazy lawyer stealing. With the lawyer, you expect that behavior, but this is a man who had respect, and violated that to enrich himself.
Term limits, yes.

where did Rahm Emanuel get all his goodies? not that this excuses this corruption, it does not. but let's face it, Congress is loaded with millionaires. The Dems are better at using their political positions to make ill gotten gains "legally".

Ya got a point there...
If George Bush was facing a Democrat House, his veto pen would have run out of ink several times by now.

And GW would be known for his balanced budget.

This guy sounds like Bobby Torricelli in New Jersey. Duke is not as slick. Torricelli watched his donors get convicted. He walks free. I doubt if Duke had a handle in the furniture and other junk. Sounds more like wifey was using his offices..........silly Duke

call me unethical MM...I have been a party to:

hunting trips for city officials (councilmen, public works, codes, zoning)

tickets to games

private plane trips for medical

and a commemrative 45-70 and a .454 Casull

your views noble admittedly but would result in poor results for contracts and variances

regards!

Exactly. When a few RATS start going to jail, then I'll worry about what Duke Cunningham might have done.

It is best to use the whole sentance not just part of it. Do not get me wrong, it is still a crime.

Not me. I'm not going to let anybody off the hook just because he has an (R) after his name.

How can we rail against (D) corruption with a straight face if we're not willing to do the same with (R) corruption?

So you're a libertarian, or some other kind of third-party person? Maybe you've got a point.

I'm for whatever will break the grip of limitless government, which is what we have.

Good argument for term limits. When they stay there too long, the temptation to become corrupt, and/or "part of the problem" seems almost irresistible.
