Poland seeks to reduce dependence on Russian gas
Over the next four years Poland intends to find at least one new supplier of natural gas in order to ease its almost exclusive dependence on Russian supplies. The situation is too difficult and the sector is very threatened by the risk of supplies being cut, Polands new right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) Economy Minister Piotr Wozniak said last Wednesday, quoted by Polands PAP news agency.
The search for non-Russian natural gas supplies became a top priority in Poland after Russia and Germany announced they would build a pipeline along the bottom of the Baltic Sea linking the two countries but bypassing Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. All four European Union newcomers have vehemently protested the move, claiming it will compromise their energy security and that, as a fellow E.U. member, Germany should give priority to their concerns. Polish energy sector analysts argue that once gas flows directly from Russia to Germany via the Baltic line, Poland could be more exposed to the risk of Russia shutting the valve on the Yamal pipeline, which supplies it and western Europe.
Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz is expected to raise the issue of the Baltic Sea pipeline with Germanys new Chancellor Angela Merkel during her first visit to Warsaw on December 2. The Polish leader has also endorsed the construction of a second branch of the Yamal pipeline to carry natural gas from the Russian Far East to western Europe via Poland. The decision by private German and Russian energy companies to build the pipeline along the Baltic Sea floor was taken earlier this year with the backing of Russian President Vladimir Putin and former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
I wonder if Northern Sea oil field will have enough to supply for Poland, as well as from Central Asia. These are the two most reliable sorce of oil. Another would be an oil pipeline from Middle East region, with Iraq being one of the source.
1. All Central Asia's gas in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan is bought by Gazprom for 5 years.
2. There is no gas pipeline from Central Asia to Poland outside Russia.

Not exactly, there is a need to invest into additional infrastructure. Beside it would be enough to pay them higher bribes than Gazprom. :)
Easier to buy from Gazprom. Finland buys 95% of its gas from Russia and doesn't bother.

How so? Doesn't it contradict the main thought of article?
After I read the title, my first thought was: "I'd like to not get gas from Mexican" - but that isn't happening either.

You are probably wrong since all central asian gas goes trough Russia. Russia may easy shut it down. Instead gasprom bought it. For central asian no matter who pays money but if not gasprom then how you will deliver?.
I'm not so proud recently. PiS pisses me of. So much bad press we had not had for the past 15 years! God damn it!
Bye. I'm going to a near-by park, cut some trees, make fire and cook potatoes ;)
Actually it is not a reason to be pissed of. Our leftist media quoting always leftist European media outlets, so it is not surprising that they dont like PiS. PiS is far from being perfect but media hates them because of something else. Seriously I almost stopped to watch TV, cause I cannot stand all this BS which they promote.
The New York Post??? they are American leftists, in the past they were even pro-Stalin.
Don't tell me what I should read and what not! The thing I have a different opinion about PiS doesn't mean that FR is not a place for me, man...
oh sorry indeed I confused these two :)
