read that if the United States were to pull out of Iraq before "victory," the lives of those brave soldiers who have been killed in battle will have been in vain. I don't understand why a civilized, godly people would believe that.
The men and women who fought and died in combat lived lives before the war, lives in which they made friends, cared for their families, contributed to others in the practice of compassion and respect and touched those around them.
They forged strong bonds of commitment with those in their combat units friendships that would last a lifetime. The value of their respective lives cannot depend solely on the circumstances of their death.
Granted, each soldier put himself or herself in harm's way by joining the armed forces. Their reasons for joining probably were as varied as their number. Some no doubt joined because others in their family had served proudly in past conflicts; some may have joined because a close friend joined; some may have joined because of a conviction that this conflict was a just cause. Some must have joined in spite of the disapproval of those around them.
To believe that young men and women must continue combat because others before them died in combat is madness. It's the kind of thinking that led to Japanese kamikaze pilots in World War II, genocide in the Baltic and suicide bombers in the Middle East. We hold sacred the lives of our soldiers. We grieve for those who lost their lives in this war and we pray for those in danger.
To suggest that further involvement in Iraq is necessary because so many have died is beyond my comprehension.

'Victory.' It's such an ugly word to a Liberal, when 'surrender' isn't.
Hey, she's a school teacher- you can't expect her to be knowledgeable about history.
Bzzzzt! Nice try, but thanks for playing! Johnny, tell her what lovely parting gifts we have for her!
this author obviously knows nothing about honor...
Because it means, Sue Ann, that the cause wasn't worth their death.
No one said their death wasn't honorable, dingbat. They said it would be IN VAIN, that is, to no ultimate purpose.
And because she's neither, she never will.
What a @#$%^&*!!, she couldn't find her own keister with two hands and a map.
You know who is going to be hurt right away if the USA quits. It is not the Republicans and right wingers. It is the majority of the Iraqi people who were overjoyed to have So-damned off their backs and who if left alone at this time will almost certainly proceed to re-fall to certain Moose trouble makers who have no wishes to make any kind of civilized peace but only to brutally rule. Trouble makers who would just as soon hack her head off with a table knife as look at her.
Typical reporting from the Atlanta Urinal.
That is a gross oversimplification.
To continue to fight in a losing cause is foolish.
To surrender when victory is being achieved and surrender would mean the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi Kurds and Shiites as well as surrendering strategic control of a majority of the world's know oil reserves to terrorists is lunacy.
When it comes to the real world, liberals have the mentality of 8 year olds.
So typical and of the same party that were trying to tell me this morning that http://www.aljazeerah.info/ was the best informed and fairest online publication there was.
I don't agree that losing a child in any circumstance would be equally painful as the author suggests, and hopefully I never find out. If a child dies while robbing a store with a handgun, it's an all out tragedy and failure for the parent. If a child dies while trying to save the life of an innocent, it seems to me that is certainly something noble that a parent could be proud of while still mourning the loss of a loved one.
What a terrible, horrible thing to say ... what do you have against 8 year olds to insult them this way .... this dingbat doesn't have the brains found in a common cabbage
In a sane world, this piece would be sufficient to prove this "teacher" is unfit to teach. Poor kids who have to sit in that classroom. A wasted year of their lives, getting this obviously uneducated persons rantings pumped into their heads.
The dizzy bitch should have realized that at the BEGINNING of her "article" and put her pen down....
