The history of civilization would tell us that a country based on freedom and economic liberty generally last just a bit over 200 years. If you know of such a society that has lasted well beyond the 200-year mark, let me know. What about the country of England? Isn't it still around?
To: beaureguard
You can trace the decline of American to several different and varied beginning point. Among them:
4. The trash infecting the American public via airwave violence and drugs, newsrags printing editoral-laced "news", hollyweird producing violent/leftest/US-bashing movies and TV shows...

Boy. The networks are really gearing up for the elections. Depress the American people by a constant bombardment of doom and gloom and create an atmosphere of hopelessness.
And
Who rides to the rescue for another "Morning in America" speech? Why, Russ Feingold, Hillary (blech...), Fat Albert, or any one of the real disasters..
Who teaches the course in propaganda?

You forgot that some citizens, based on their race, already are not accorded equal treatment under the law. Someone from South America or Africa can cross the border and be given rights that my son, due to him being white, does not have.

Agreed. This is the most important one.

The end of America began with the influence of the NYT and Oprah, who now run our politics, culture and education, with impunity.

The end is very near if SCOTUS keeps using international laws as precedents.

Still around, but it ain't free. Boortz is right about this. Britain was once the world's super power (though they didn't call it that) and was so for about 200 years.
If we don't turn back the tide of socialism in our country, then our run is pretty much up. Look at the Roman Empire - half the reason it fell was because of all the loose morals.
Last week our Asian allies were saying that they are restructuring their defense plans with the belief in mind that the U.S. could not win a war against China.
The leftists are achieving victory without winning at the ballot box. Victory for them is the destruction of America through the destruction of her freedoms.

It is a mere shadow of it's 19th century self. They no longer even have the right to protect their property from those who would steal or destroy it.

I wonder if this is just wishful thinking on the part of the networks? They using John Murtha as a technical advisor?

The networks are really gearing up for the elections. Depress the American people by a constant bombardment of doom and gloom and create an atmosphere of hopelessness. It's been going on in the visual arts for years now. The juried art shows favor the most depressing, numbing garbage they can find, and I'm convinced their purpose is to keep the crowds depressed, hopeless, and edgy enough to want things to change.

Back to the main point. Americans are no longer in love with freedom. In fact, the case can be made that Americans are afraid of freedom. Oh, they want to be free to go on vacation and to chose where to live, who to marry and what to wear each day, but that just about covers it. Americans want the government to educate their children, guarantee their jobs, determine their wages, provide them with medical care, pay for their prescriptions, insure their comfort in retirement, regulate their business competitors, and control the actions of their neighbors. If you suggest that the responsibility for any of these factors be placed back into the hands of the individual the screams and howls of outrage and indignation will be heard across the country. And so goes it. The general public of Americans WANT our Government to intervene with our rights. Just as I figured.

Walter Reuther's vision of the welfare state probably has more to do with where we are than anything Marx came up with...
